Job Summary


Under general supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and Administrative Director of Ophthalmology, guided by the policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the medical director and physician staff, the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) performs established nursing procedures using clinical knowledge to care for adult and pediatric patients. The nurse provides excellent clinical care, telephone advice, and patient education to the Ophthalmology patients. The CN II will comply with the Medical Center house and Telephone Standards.

The CN II is accountable for his/her own practice and has primary responsibility for utilizing nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe patient care in the outpatient clinical setting. S/he carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required and performs nursing care for patients with complex needs. CN II is recognized as a leader and clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and organization. CN II serves as resource for all clinical staff and initiates and participates in patient and staff education. The Clinical Nurse II is responsible for nursing in the following Ophthalmology subspecialties:

Oculoplastics
Comprehensive ophthalmology
Retina
Glaucoma
Cornea and Refractive Surgery
Oncology
Neuro-Ophthalmology
Optometry
Strabismus
Pediatrics

The Clinical Nurse II must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients, and providers. A high degree of independence, initiative, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff, and patients in a complex environment.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $93.47 - $112.11 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Three years of clinical nursing experience
  • Two years' experience in one of the following areas:
    • Ophthalmology Clinic Setting
    • Ambulatory Specialty Clinic Setting
  • Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills
  • Ability to multitask and balance competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Two years of Pediatrics nursing experience
  • Experience working at Academic Medical Center
  • Experience working in an Ophthalmologic setting

License/Certification

Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
