Job Summary
The OR Support Assistant (PSA) will participate as an integral member of the team. The PSA performs multiple support functions directed toward positive patient care outcomes supporting the infection control standards. All patient care team members are responsible to meet patient needs, demonstrate willingness to learn new skills, and foster a harmonious work environment in which high quality patient care and customer service is consistently provided. Team members promote a cooperative working relationship with each other, physicians, other disciplines and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect, displaying sensitivity to culture differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner. The PSA is responsible to support all infection control and OSHA standards. The PSA is responsible to support all services in a collegial and customer service manner at all times.
A. ENVIRONMENT OF CARE
- Performs the cleaning of the OR's and sub sterile rooms for Preoperative, Intraoperative, Postoperative, Terminal Cleaning and Weekly and Monthly Terminal Cleaning following the Department's OR Cleaning Procedures.
- Performs damp dusting of ORs and sub-sterile before cases begin each day. Alcohol shelves where sterile supplies are kept.
- Clean Operating Rooms between cases and perform "terminal cleaning" at the conclusion of the daily schedule.
- Clean all ORs, Procedure rooms, Pre and Post op, PACU, sub sterile areas, supply rooms, equipment storage rooms, anesthesia workroom, and hopper rooms.
- Collect and dispose of trash and medical waste from all areas during the cleaning process. Ensures that waste is disposed of properly i.e. red bags pharmaceutical, sharps, etc.
- Perform high dusting, spot clean, damp wipe, service restrooms, dry & damp mop, vacuum floors.
- Change biohazard sharps containers when they are 2/3 full.
- Keep corridors free of clutter and equipment.
- Prepares patient beds/gurneys for transport.
- Ensure adequate supply of cleaning supplies.
- Maintain soap and towel dispensers, scrub brushes and scrub solutions.
- Perform patient transport as directed by the charge nurse.
- Wipe down equipment prior to and after use.
- Damp wipes the surfaces of the anesthesia equipment after each case.
- Use principles of proper body mechanics and body alignment when moving equipment and/or supplies.
- Assist with equipment moving and storage as needed.
- Stocks substeriles with appropriate forms.
- Stocks warmers with blankets, towels, solutions.
- Rotates/checks solutions for outdates.
- Performs special high cleaning assignments as needed.
- Set-up equipment for shift
- Clean Pharmacy compound areas and fills out compound room's cleaning log/s.
- Clean Pharmacy area
- Complete project work assignments
- Clean, restock and store equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow all department and USCF policies, procedures and work rules.
- Maintain confidentiality in matters related to patients and/or staff.
- Follow House and Telephone Standards as established by USCF.
- Be knowledgeable about and adhere to all applicable UCSF and unit-specific infection control, health and safety policies and procedures, including annual safety training.
- Support the mission, philosophy and goals of UCSF.
- Support the development of unit goals and actively participate in meetings and educational programs as required.
- Maintain a clean, safe and functional work environment.
- Follow hand washing protocol.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Use proper body mechanics to avoid injury.
- Follow compound area procedures.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $29.77 - $37.88 (Hourly Rate). Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate
- Ability to work within a team.
- Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job description.
- Willingness to be taught/learn new skills.
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to organize work duties and set priorities with assignments.
- Maintains flexibility in scheduling and assignments.
- Must have exemplary customer service.
- Previous hospital cleaning experience
- Ability to organize and prioritize the daily work load
- Verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to interact with patients, staff, visitors and vendors effectively
