The expected hiring range for this position is:

$63,200.00-$83,200.00.

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance, referral bonus, or sponsorship assistance.

About the Role:

Fermilab's Finance Organization seeks a Financial Analyst to assist in financial planning, reporting, and analysis for the Laboratory's operational areas. This individual assists with budget development, cost monitoring, and financial reporting while learning laboratory financial systems, policies, and procedures. The position contributes to accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations in support of mission objectives.

What your day-to-day as a Financial Analyst will look like:

  • Assist in preparing budget submissions and updates by compiling financial data and documentation.
  • Support development of budget projections and multi-year forecasts under guidance from senior analysts and Laboratory Directorate.
  • Participate in reviews of Construction and Equipment Work-in-Process to determine capitalization or asset reclassification.
  • Monitor monthly and quarterly costs; assist with variance analysis and flag discrepancies for review.
  • Organize financial data into summary reports, tables, and charts for various spending categories such as labor, materials, and services.
  • Review timecards and effort reporting weekly; ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies to prevent payroll impacts.
  • Support enterprise system updates and implementations, including user testing, documentation, and report development.
  • Ensure accuracy of data entry and compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Abide by and perform all duties in accordance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field with 2+ years of experience or any equivalent combination of education or experience.

Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Foundational knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis principles.
  • Basic understanding of federal or grant-funded financial environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to learn ERP/financial systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Work Arrangement:

  • Hybrid: is a work arrangement in which an employee as part of an ongoing regular schedule, works at an alternative worksite in the United States (e.g., an employee's residence) on some days and at the primary worksite on other days. Requires an approved hybrid work request for one or more days a week worked remotely within the United States on a routine basis.
