Components and System Reliability Technical Specialist

The candidate will be Global Technical Lead within their technical expertise and technical domain for the conventional and hybrid automatic transmissions and driveline systems product design and release center. A qualified candidate will have experience in this sought-after technical domain with strong expertise in material science and components properties including failure mode analysis for powertrain and driveline components and systems. Knowledge and background in component and system reliability relating to gear, bearing and shaft design and validation necessary.

The candidate will be the subject matter technical expert and lead technical solutions in their field of expertise to ensure the best technical and economic positioning of the company in relation to the competition and contribute to the prospective vision of the field of expertise. The Technical Specialist will own the technical performance requirements and KPIs for their field of expertise and technical domain including development of innovative technical solutions.

The following duties will be required:



  • Ensure the technological intelligence for their area of expertise, lead and ensure technical roadmap competitive advantages, represent and lead technical forums and decision-making bodies when necessary, will lead the management and sharing of knowledge through teaching in their field of expertise (knowledge capitalization documents, internal network coordination, etc.) and train colleagues and the specialists in their technical field of expertise
  • The candidate will also own the best practices in their field of expertise and the final signoff of designs within their technical domain, contribute to or put forward the technical policy for their specific field of expertise. The skills are recognized in their field of expertise and their advice and opinions have a bearing on technical choices in their field of expertise
  • The candidate will lead key quality and warranty root cause analysis and corrective action task force teams, actively contribute to the network of expertise and organize internal conferences and communications for their field of expertise and the work may be published in scientific/specialist magazines and/or external communications and will participate in bodies at national level or international level, where relevant (standardization, professional)


Responsibilities:



  • Lead and ensure key components design best practices, lessons learned, continuous improvements and system performance functional objectives are followed, met and integrated into product design release process
  • Lead technical infrastructure lead for key components, documentation, specifications, requirements definitions and drawing signoffs for key supplied components
  • Lead and/or support all engineering or manufacturing topics needing this domain expertise.
  • Promote intellectual property identification and development
  • Coaching, training and mentoring less experienced engineers

Basic Qualifications:



  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree field
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in propulsion systems, automatic transmissions, drivelines or related fields for tech specialist candidates
  • Strong expertise in technical domains or technical specialty including components, subsystems and systems design
  • Experience leading technical infrastructure and engineering best practices
  • Experience in creating technology roadmaps in their respective area of expertise
  • Strong interpersonal communication and team leadership skills and comfortable with presenting to executive leadership teams Experience in preparation and teaching classes in their respective disciplines
  • Experience with gear steel chemistry formulation for hardenability
  • Experience with gear heat treatment formulation and inspection for strength and distortion with gas and oil quench
  • Experience with identifying primary crack initiation and propagation, plastic flow in structures, gear, bearings, and shafts
  • Expertise in tribology, surface characterization, lubricants performance based on base stock and additive chemistry
  • Experience with reliability and durability test development


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master of Science Degree in Engineering
  • A minimum of 20 years of experience in propulsion systems, automatic transmissions, drivelines or related fields for senior tech specialist and technical fellow candidates
  • Greenbelt or Blackbelt DFSS verification
  • Ability to travel globally to suppliers when needed
