Summary

TheMeter Technical Specialist role is responsible for ensuring proper installation of meter field network technical assets, able to address design deficiencies in the field network by producing modifying proposed meter field network designs. You will maintain meter field network equipment through the ability to lead, plan, and oversee testing, installation, and maintenance of field network technical assets within our distribution metering infrastructure. The Meter Technical Specialist will solve complex meter networking problems involving radio, ethernet, cellular, and satellite communications. This role coordinates work activities with other departments, other utilities or outside companies

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED and five (5) years experience in a technical metering position, Customer Service Planning position, or equivalent expertise.



Preferred knowledge, skills or qualifications:




  • Possess and demonstrate a high level of competence in leadership, decision making and planning/organizational skills. Proficiency in computer skills, electronic theory, scientific math, circuit analysis, ESRM and NEC.
  • Thorough knowledge of company safety rules and practices, and of the labor agreement.

Major Accountabilities

1) Responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of weekly and daily work plans and schedules on a real-time basis for Meter Operations.Monitors crew shifts, work orders/assignments and actual work while mobile workforce management crews are in the field and adjusts schedules and assignments as needed.



2) Acts as a single point of contact for work load management and oversight with to oversee and drive problem resolutions to help ensure schedule adherence and execution.



3) Work directly with customer service, contractors and customers for coordination of work order process on new installations, upgrades, conversions and electrical service relocations.



4) Develop and present resolution recommendations for system design/application problems, propose new equipment evaluations, system performance measurements, and routine maintenance procedures.



5) Provide technical leadership in the direction and training of Polyphase Meterman in handling of more complex job and equipment.



6) Maintain and update the Electric Service Requirements Manual and provide training accordingly. Approve drawings on service Entrance Sections.



7) Maintain a high level of safety for Meter Operations personnel.



8) Evaluates policies, processes and procedures and develop and initiate actions to improve or make corrections as needed.

Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.



  • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
  • Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
  • Role types are subject to change based on business need.
