Aquatics Coordinator
Full-Time | Spring -Summer (with potential to continue)
Locations: Ipswich YMCA, Camp Dory (Essex, MA), Camp Cedar Mill (Rowley, MA) Are you a passionate aquatics professional ready to lead, grow, and make an impact? The YMCA of the North Shore is seeking a full-time Aquatics Coordinator to oversee and elevate our aquatics programs across three dynamic locations. This role is critical to ensuring safe, engaging, and high-quality aquatic experiences for members, campers, and families throughout the summer season and into the fall, with the possibility of ongoing employment. Guided by the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, the Aquatics Coordinator leads program development, staff supervision, and daily operations while fostering a culture of safety, learning, and community connection.
What You'll Do
Leadership & Program Development
Lead and support a wide range of aquatics programs, including lifeguarding, swim lessons, aquatic classes, open swim, vacation programs, and special events.
Implement YMCA curriculum to ensure structured skill progression and program consistency.
Stay current with YMCA of the USA standards and emerging aquatics trends to strengthen and expand offerings.
Staff Management & Development
Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and supervise aquatics staff across all locations.
Ensure all staff certifications are current and compliant.
Foster a positive, inclusive work environment through clear communication, coaching, and recognition.
Support coordinated staffing and scheduling to maximize program availability and coverage.
Member & Program Engagement
Enhance participant satisfaction and retention through proactive, positive communication with members, youth, and families.
Build strong relationships through daily engagement and a welcoming presence on deck.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to all YMCA and local aquatic safety regulations.
Coordinate daily pool testing with the Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and report issues promptly.
Maintain clean, safe, and well-managed pool environments at all locations.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, youth services, recreation, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant work experience.
Current and valid aquatic-related certifications required; must maintain all certifications throughout employment.
Ability and willingness to obtain YMCA-specific certifications and any required permits or licenses.
Demonstrated leadership experience, including at least one year supervising staff and leading youth programs with participants of varying ages.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Flexible schedule with the ability to adjust to changing program needs.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Must be physically and mentally capable of maintaining required certifications and responding appropriately to emergencies.
Ability to work in environments with exposure to chlorine and other pool chemicals.
Must be able to react quickly, calmly, and effectively to unexpected situations to ensure participant safety.
