Summary: Provideroutine clinical and administrative support to podiatrists and other health care team members in the Wound and Podiatry Clinic. Works under the clinical supervision of the podiatrist for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor. Responsibilities: 1. Evaluating and assessing the health of patients nails and feet 2. Provides therapeutic foot and nail treatments 3. Carries out gentle debridement and reduction of thickened toenails 4. Advises patients on foot and nail care, hygiene. 5. Collects specimens, such as nail trimmings 6. Adheres to all health and safety regulations. 7. Performs nail trimming after asssessment by podiatrist. This does not include ingrown toenails. 8. Performs callus removal after assessment by podiatrist. 9. Knowledge of nail diseases, conditions and infections. 10. Provides patient with after-visit, follow-up, self-care or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed. 11. Prepares, cleans, stocks and maintains exam and treatment rooms. 12. Excellent understanding and compliance with sanitation and sterilization standards to prevent cross-contamination and ensure patient safety.

Other information: Education Requirements: * High school diploma or equivalent. Licensure/Certification Requirements: * Completion of a State approved nail technician or cosmetology school program. Professional Experience Requirements: * Possess at least one to two years of experience as a Certified Medical Nail Technician in an outpatient clinical setting * Possess at least one year of full-time experience as a Certified Medical Assistant under the supervision of a board certified podiatrist (Doctor of Podiatry Medicine). Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements: * Ability to perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team with staff and podiatrists. Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
