Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing, testing, and improving water heater components and systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and performance requirements. This role requires expertise in mechanical engineering principles, with a focus on integrating heating elements, control systems, and structural components. The Mechanical Engineer will maintain the integrity of equipment, documentation, and drawings, and will set up, adjust, and operate machine tools to perform progressive machining operations on a variety of standardized work.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Development

  • Develop and optimize electrical and mechanical components for water heaters, including heating elements, thermostats, wiring, and structural assemblies.
  • Ensure department production requirements are met and any backlog remains at an acceptable level.


Testing & Validation

  • Conduct performance, durability, and safety tests on prototypes and finished products.


Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure all designs meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable energy-efficiency guidelines.


Collaboration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance) to support seamless product development and production.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors to support repairs and improvements to machinery.


Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues with existing machines and systems.


Documentation

  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.



Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.


Experience

  • 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a related field.
  • Some electrical engineering experience preferred.


Skills

  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits, thermal systems, and mechanical design principles.
  • Familiarity with safety standards (UL, CE) and energy-efficiency regulations.
  • Experience with hands-on repairs and machining.


Other Requirements

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.



Working Conditions

Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking, standing, crouching, bending, and twisting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs or more occasionally.


Work Environment

  • Operation of machinery requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and work boots. Loose-fitting clothing and jewelry are not permitted.
  • Environment may be extremely dirty due to welding, blasting, and steel grit materials.
  • Potential exposure to temperature extremes (40F to 120F).
  • Some exposure to elevated noise levels.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IoT-enabled appliances or smart control systems.
  • Background in manufacturing processes and cost optimization.
