Job Summary

The Hospital Operations Finance Director serves as the senior financial leader supporting all Hospital Operations divisions. This role oversees financial planning, operational budgeting, resource optimization, and fiscal governance for a division comprising 6367 budgeted FTE and an operating budget of $2.2B.

This position oversees multiple financial analysts, developing and executing financial strategies, and ensuring adherence to budget protocols and internal controls. The Director determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines strategies for a program with organization-wide impact.

The Director serves as a strategic partner to finance and operational leadership, providing high-level consultation, complex financial modeling, forecasting, scenario analysis, and business planning to support organizational goals, service expansion, regulatory compliance, and resource allocation.

Reports directly to the Senior Vice President / Associate Chief Operating Officer with a dotted line to the Vice President of Finance.

Department Overview

Hospital Financial Operations department provides strategic, administrative, and financial direction to support and optimize the overall effectiveness of all Hospital Operations divisions.

Department Specific Job Scope

The scope includes execution of institutional financial policy, ensuring divisional compliance with system wide financial systems and controls, capital and operating financial planning, labor analytics, and business operations support across all Hospital Operations service lines.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • BA/BS in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • Extensive experience in financial management within a healthcare delivery system, including complex budgeting, labor analytics, forecasting, and cost analysis.
  • 5 years or more demonstrated financial operations management experience (variance/costing) in a health care setting.
  • Experience working with Financial and Enterprise Resource Planning software
  • Several years demonstrated supervisory and managerial experience
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and analytical experience skills in business plan development and return on investment analysis.
  • Experience in budgets, cost control, labor and expense variances and service line planning.
  • Extensive knowledge of complex financial policies, systems, budgeting, fund accounting, and internal controls.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex initiatives.
  • Ability to evaluate processes to establish and maintain appropriate accountability structures and strong internal control elements throughout the division.
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to provide executive-level guidance.
  • Ability to influence, persuade, and partner with senior operational leaders.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels; ability to interact with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is highly desired
  • MA/MS/MBA Graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, business management or related field highly desired
