What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Controls Engineer to join the Fremont Plant Operations Controls team. This engineer will both maintain and improve the Fremont facility controls infrastructure. Working with other engineering disciplines and their internal customers, they will support a diverse array of processes, including manufacturing, HVAC, compressed air, process cooling water, water treatment, utilities (electrical, water, gas), and other unique projects supporting the company's mission. This person will be a key member in the controls scope throughout each project's lifecycle, including conceptualization, design, construction, commissioning and control systems programming. The ideal candidate will have strong fundamental instrumentation and controls knowledge, and will be capable of procuring, constructing, programming and owning any system.


What You'll Do
  • Support multiple sites during the construction and energization of all Instrumentation and Controls equipment, as well any mechanical, chemical, or electrical equipment that have factory or field installed controls systems
  • Provide expert on-call support for system outages and failover incidents
  • Be directly responsible for all network configuration, PLC programming, HMI development, wiring changes, testing, and commissioning of Instrumentation and Controls systems on the projects you work on

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, similar degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Controls Engineer conceptualizing, designing, commissioning, and programming process automation systems
  • Proficiency in programming industrial process and manufacturing equipment: PLCs (Siemens, Rockwell, Beckhoff), SCADA/HMI (Ignition)
  • Experience with operation of multiple types of utility systems such as: electrical switchgear, dust collectors, heat exchangers, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, air handling units, control valves and instrumentation, air compressors/dryers, hazardous chemical storage and containment
  • Understanding of relevant codes and industry standards, with knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC). Familiar with many industry standards including UL 508A, ISA S5.1, ISA 101, ANSI/RIA 15.06, NFPA 70E, OSHA, CA Title 24
  • Understanding and familiarity with calculating, sizing and selecting instrumentation and controls components and wiring
  • Proficiency in reviewing and creating detailed process, electrical, pneumatic and fluid schematics in CAD (AutoCAD). Ability to use 3D CAD packages such as Revit is a plus

    Expected Compensation
    $91,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
