Position description

Saloner Lab - Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist

The Saloner Lab is seeking a Junior, Assistant, Associate, or Full Specialist. This opportunity is available at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging for a Specialist to work on the acquisition and evaluation of MR imaging studies in patients with vascular disease. Responsibilities include imaging subjects with vascular disease, processing that data, and performing analyses on the imaging features across the disease condition. The incumbent will perform studies to optimize the utilization of 4D Flow techniques with systematic comparisons in flow models, in numerical simulation, and with comparison to in vivo imaging studies. The incumbent will develop methods to visualize flow streamlines, particle trajectories, and the dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy. The incumbent will prepare manuscripts reporting these results and will assist in grant preparation.

Required Qualifications:



  • Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree in a related science (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
  • Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with three or more years of research experience.
  • Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of research experience.
  • Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of research experience.
  • Applicants must meet all the qualifications by the time of appointment.
  • Applicant materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Expertise in data analysis, postprocessing of imaging data, a knowledge of vascular anatomy, and the ability to perform statistical analyses of complex data sets.

  • Post graduate training in field. Advanced degree in physics or engineering and a knowledge of the principles of MR imaging.
  • Knowledge of advanced computer skills such as Matlab, Python, and C++.


See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000-$194,800.
