Introduction

This position supports a multidisciplinary healthcare program that provides comprehensive behavioral health services within a secure or residential environment. Staff work collaboratively across medical, mental health, and administrative teams to ensure high-quality care for individuals in custody.


Description of Duties

The Behavioral Health Provider (BHP) is a licensed independent clinical social worker functioning as a subject matter expert in mental health and substance use disorders. The BHP is skilled in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with mental health concerns, serious mental illness, and co-occurring disorders.

Responsibilities may include conducting mental health evaluations, developing treatment plans, coordinating services, and providing direct clinical care such as individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, behavioral analysis, and substance abuse education. The role may also involve participation in therapeutic community programming, as well as consultation and training for other healthcare and facility staff.


Required Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program.
  • Minimum one year of post-licensure experience as an independently licensed clinical social worker.
  • Experience implementing or managing mental health programs (preferred).
  • Experience in a correctional, detention, or residential setting (preferred).


Required Licensure / Certification

  • Current, full, unrestricted independent clinical social work license in the state of employment.
  • Must maintain clinical privileges as required by the facility.
  • Current BLS certification.

  • Understanding of therapeutic community treatment models (preferred).
  • Proficiency utilizing various therapeutic approaches (group, individual, creative, skills-based, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-cultural and multi-lingual environments.
  • Ability to use interpreter services as needed.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and priorities.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and basic office software.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality standards, HIPAA, and PII requirements.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction, and clinical oversight within an integrated mental health treatment program.
  • Deliver direct clinical care within scope of practice.
  • Manage assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning across diverse populations.
  • Coordinate and respond to behavioral health emergencies as needed.
  • Conduct telehealth services when required and clinically appropriate.
  • Complete psychological and mental health evaluations, including DSM-5-aligned diagnostic assessments.
  • Develop and monitor treatment plans in collaboration with behavioral health support staff.
  • Provide brief counseling, psychotherapy, group therapy, behavioral analysis, and psychoeducational services.
  • Support individuals presenting with trauma, abuse, neglect, suicidal ideation, or acute psychiatric symptoms.
  • Provide post-discharge follow-up and continuity of care coordination.
  • Participate in suicide prevention programming when designated.
  • Serve as a mental health consultant to medical, administrative, and facility personnel.
  • Develop and deliver training for staff on mental health topics such as suicide prevention, crisis response, abuse/neglect indicators, and behavioral health best practices.
  • Handle case management needs including community placement, hospital referrals, and aftercare coordination.
  • Support program functions such as reviews, reporting, and documentation.
  • Utilize electronic health record systems for assessments, referrals, and documentation.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and required training.
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and multidisciplinary reviews.
  • Provide oversight and mentorship to behavioral health technicians and interns when applicable.


Duty Hours / On-Call Requirements

  • Full-time position with required availability for day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • Participation in rotational on-call coverage; may require returning to the facility during on-call periods.
  • Must be available to assist during emergency activations as needed.


Physical Demands

  • May require extended standing, walking, bending, or lifting moderate weight.
  • Must be able to respond on foot to emergencies within required timeframes.
  • Must be capable of assisting individuals during evacuations or medical events.


Supervisory Controls

This is a contracted position. Operational supervision is provided by the contracted program leadership, with clinical oversight from designated medical administrators.
