Job Summary

The Data Center Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic and structured cabling infrastructure within data center environments. This role involves hands-on technical work, including fiber termination, testing, rack and stack activities, and infrastructure buildouts, while adhering to safety standards and project specifications. The ideal candidate has prior data center and fiber experience, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and is capable of performing physically demanding tasks in active construction and operational environments.

Job Responsibilities




  • Perform structured cabling and fiber rough-in installations.



  • Pull, dress, label, terminate, test, and patch copper and fiber cabling.



  • Install and configure single-mode and multi-mode fiber, including ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC connectors.



  • Conduct fiber testing using Fluke and OTDR equipment.



  • Troubleshoot and resolve fiber-related connectivity issues.



  • Rack and stack customer equipment according to specifications.



  • Build out server racks and rack elevations.



  • Install fiber trays, ladder racks, power trays, cabinets, and related infrastructure.



  • Complete infrastructure installations, including cable management systems and tray systems.



  • Receive materials and assemble hardware as required.



  • Perform Outside Plant (OSP) work by running fiber into the data center.



  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and installation drawings.



  • Communicate professionally with team members and management, both verbally and in writing.



  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols, including PPE usage, jobsite cleanup, and OSHA compliance.



  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting various tasks and adapting quickly to new responsibilities.



  • Maintain a continuous learning mindset to support evolving project needs.




Job Requirements




  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.



  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Data Center Technician.



  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on fiber installation and maintenance experience.



  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Familiarity with Fluke testers and fiber splicing equipment; experience with Fujikura splicers is a plus.



  • Experience in commercial or data center low-voltage environments.



  • Physical ability to work on ladders and scissor lifts, operate in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, move up to 75 pounds, and remain on feet for extended periods.



  • Ability to stand and work for the duration of assigned shifts.




Education




  • High school diploma or GED equivalency required.




Work Experience




  • At least 2 years of experience supporting data center or commercial low-voltage infrastructure projects.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)




  • Typical start time is 6:00 a.m.; overtime and weekend work may be required.



  • Work is performed on-site daily within active data center construction environments.



  • Full PPE is required while on-site; additional PPE beyond basic tools is provided.



  • The role requires working at heights and moving between racks, servers, and rooms throughout the facility.
