About the Job

Position Summary

Boynton Health provides a variety of services including routine check-ups, mental health support, eye care, dental services, nutrition, gender care, physical therapy, and pharmacy. The Revenue Cycle Cashier is responsible for providing support with billing, transactions, refunds, and offering guidance & explanation to patients about their service charges. The Cashier also prepares accounting and audit reports for the Cashiers' Office.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service at the Cashiers' window and answer questions related to services, billing, complaints, and general inquiries.
  • Manages patient billing, resolves patient insurance issues; checks and updates patient information.
  • Performs opening and closing duties, which includes unlocking the safe and ordering change.
  • Programs, updates, and manages the billing portion of the clinic's electronic billing system.
  • Prepares all incoming mail payments and credit card payments, as well as cash and check payments; updates batch settlement for credit card charges.
  • Manages courier bins for satellite clinics.
  • Prepares and assembles bank deposits; assembles, posts, and records journal entries.
  • Programs the billing and claims rules; update and/or correct the rules as necessary to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Collaborates with the billing system vendor to ensure that the program is functioning correctly; resolve usage issues as needed.
  • Communicates with insurance companies to resolve a wide variety of payment, non-payment, and coverage issues.
  • Corresponds with providers to clarify encounter details; proofs and corrects encounters in the system and fix errors created by system changes/updates.
  • Corrects and resubmits rejected insurance claims and utilize monthly reports and statements to collect outstanding balances.
  • Provides support and back-up as needed.
  • Participates in Boynton and University-wide meetings, trainings, committees, etc., as assigned.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the job classification and position description.

Required Qualifications

  • Reliable and consistent transportation and attendance; Able to work in the office as often as needed.
  • High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of business, bank or general accounts transaction experience. Training may be substituted for some of the years of experience.
  • Proficient with computer systems, knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products; Ability to type accurately and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Professional verbal and written communication and fluent in English.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the clinical team; Builds and nurtures collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds including working objectively with individuals whose lived experiences, identities, attitudes and behaviors may differ from her/his/their own.
  • Ability to work independently in ambiguous and complex situations with excellent judgment and problem-solving skills, and work prioritization skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clerical experience involving the obtaining and evaluating of financial and/or medical billing information.
  • Experience with insurance coverages and billing requirements.
  • Experience using electronic healthcare billing systems.
  • Experience researching coverage, claim, and remittance information using payor or other reference tools.
  • Skilled in interpreting and inputting payments and insurance explanations of benefits (remittances) into computerized systems.
  • Bi/multilingual.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, and has at least limited mobility. Oral and written communications with clients requires adequate speech, vision, and hearing. Proficiency in English is required. Use of a telephone and computer terminal. Also requires adequate hand writing and manual dexterity skills.

Pay and Benefits

Hourly Pay Range: $25.57- $30.42; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment for 12-months with potential for renewal

Position Type: Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
