The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University seeks a creative front-end Web Designer to join the Information Technology department in a teleworking arrangement. The Web Designer will help promote Embry-Riddle through the design, development and implementation of user-focused solutions for websites, digital signs, email templates and other digital properties.

Reporting to the Director of Web Design, Experience and Optimization, the Web Designer will create user-centric, visually pleasing, responsive and accessible experiences for our website and digital properties. They will work with colleagues across the university to understand user needs, design and develop user-friendly deliverables, and collaborate with the development team to implement approved designs. The Web Designer will work with content, usability and accessibility staff to ensure designs and design components meet usability, accessibility and brand standards, as well as digital best practices.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interactive Design, User Experience, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in web design or front-end digital design

  • Demonstrated experience designing mobile-first, responsive, and accessible websites

  • Portfolio of relevant digital design projects required

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Strong proficiency in web design and front-end development, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

  • Experience using content management systems (Sitecore and SharePoint Online preferred)

  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Working knowledge of W3C web standards, ADA, and WCAG 2.2 accessibility compliance

  • Strong understanding of usability, UX principles, and digital best practices

  • Ability to design scalable, reusable web components for enterprise-level platforms

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities

  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional environment

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working with stakeholders

  • Innovative, self-directed professional with strong organizational skills

  • Experience in higher education or large enterprise environments preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Web Design, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining enterprise-level websites

  • Strong proficiency in modern web design tools and technologies (HTML, CSS, responsive design principles, CMS platforms)

  • Working knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA) and best practices

  • Experience ensuring brand consistency across digital platforms

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across departments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education or large, complex organizations

  • Familiarity with digital analytics, user experience (UX) principles, and usability testing

  • Experience supporting large-scale, institution-wide web ecosystems

  • Knowledge of content governance, accessibility compliance processes, and digital strategy alignment
