Safety Supervisor - Live Operations

Purpose of Position
Provide safety and health leadership and strategic direction for Foster Farms live operations, including ranches, feed mills, hatcheries, live haul, and truck shops. Support and advise operational management on safety systems, compliance, and continuous improvement across all live operations sites.


Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and implement proactive safety and health strategies tailored to live operations environments (ranches, feed mills, hatcheries, live haul, truck shops).
  • Ensure all locations remain safe and compliant with California OSHA regulations.
  • Collaborate with site managers to enhance and sustain a strong safety culture across live operations.
  • Support Foster Farms Safety Program and promote bestpractice sharing across sites.
  • Facilitate and monitor safety programs for each operational area.
  • Recommend, design, and implement new programs to prevent injuries and reduce losses.
  • Focus on safety needs of fieldbased and mobile work environments.
  • Support and drive improvement of leading and lagging safety indicators (near-misses, hazard observations, incident rates, lost time injuries).
  • Utilize and maintain the incident management system to ensure timely reporting, investigation, and followup.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and spot checks across all live operations sites.
  • Inspect equipment, working conditions, and vehicle safety.
  • Maintain OSHA files and required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with permits, state and federal regulations, and company policies.
  • Report potential violations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Analyze accident and incident statistics to identify trends and develop targeted safety improvements.
  • Communicate safety procedure changes to business partners and operational teams.
  • Ensure health and safety policies and procedures remain updated based on regulations and operational changes.
  • Lead safety inspections and procedural audits and take immediate corrective action when necessary.
  • Provide training on corrective actions to affected team members.
  • Investigate all safety-related incidents and nearmisses across live operations.
  • Complete necessary reports required by the safety department.
  • Drive implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintain knowledge of existing and proposed safety and legal regulations relevant to poultry live operations.
  • Support plant operations when needed to ensure operational continuity and compliance.
  • Lead and support safety committee meetings to promote engagement and continuous improvement.


Training Responsibilities

Develop, deliver, and track training on:



  • Tractor and equipment safety
  • Ergonomics and injury prevention
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Machine guarding
  • Confined space entry and rescue
  • Chemical safety and hazard communication
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Emergency response and evacuation
  • Safe animal handling and biosecurity
  • CPR and first aid
  • Transportation safety
  • Powered industrial vehicle safety


Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Agriculture, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in safety and sustainability management (preferably poultry, agriculture, or similar live operations).
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA hazard communication, accident investigation, and safety training methods.
  • Familiarity with best practices in live animal handling, feed mill operations, hatchery safety, and transportation safety.
  • Experience with safety performance metrics (leading and lagging indicators).
  • Experience with incident management systems.
  • Experience developing and delivering safety training on key topics listed above.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and safety management systems.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting information and responding to questions.
  • Ability to read and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
