Summary
In the Department of Neurology, ARCND - Nuber laboratory, under the general direction of the supervisor, supports laboratory research. Carries out a broad range of technically advanced research activities and procedures; evaluates conclusions and has considerable latitude to modify or devise methods and techniques as necessary to achieve desired results; typically supervises technical and sometimes administrative elements of the research unit. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions With minimal supervision and with previous experience in working with laboratory animals: -Breeds and maintains common use mouse strains and molecular techniques (PCR, quantitative PCR) to genotype transgenic and knockout mice. -Performs in vivo experiments involving hands-on behavioral studies and conducts mouse procedures (i.p. injections, neonate injections). -Performs mouse euthanasia, brain dissection, RNA or protein quantification, tissue RNA or protein analyses (WBA, ELISA), tissue sections and immunohistological staining. -Basic knowledge in cell culture (preferred but not required). -Assists in the orientation and training of new staff in established laboratory techniques. -Coordinates daily schedule of experiments. -Responsible for data management: collects, records, tabulates and presents data. Creates graphs of experiments, performs statistical tests (with supervision), and discusses progress of work regularly with the supervisor -Executes protocols of non-routine experiments. -Assists PI with determining the most suitable methodology. -Performs basic design and modification of protocols. -Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data. -Prepares and presents reports. -Organizes and summarizes acquired data using scientific and Statistical Techniques. -Participates in the design of experiments or field work. -All other duties as assigned. Education -Excellent oral communication skills required. -Ability to take initiative and work both independently and team-oriented. -Previous experience working in the laboratory and with rodents required. -Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems.
