Job Summary

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a talented Linux Administrator (Systems Administration Staff II/III) to bring enterprise Linux expertise to our dynamic team. You will play a crucial role in supporting critical systems in both unclassified and classified environments, enabling our aerospace engineering teams to perform advanced scientific and engineering analyses that safeguard our nation's vital space assets. Your responsibilities include provisioning, troubleshooting, patching, and implementing security hardening measures on Linux systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Oversee comprehensive backup and restoration processes for system, user data, and configuration settings to ensure data integrity, rapid recovery, and minimal operational disruption
  • Provide comprehensive technical support to scientists and engineers, ensuring seamless execution of critical workloads and applications on Linux systems through proactive monitoring, swift troubleshooting, and optimized performance tuning
  • Proactively implement robust security hardening measures and swiftly remediate vulnerabilities to safeguard critical infrastructures and ensure continuous system integrity
  • Monitor availability, improve monitoring, and restore systems and services in a timely manner and improve prevention and reduce future outages
  • Develop and refine clear, comprehensive documentation for processes and procedures, ensuring consistency, usability, and alignment with best practices

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Linux Administrator (Systems Administration Staff II) include:

  • Must have successfully completed secondary education through a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, required
  • A minimum of (1) or more years of increasingly responsible and relevant professional experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or its clones (CentOS, Oracle, Rocky, Alma) Linux systems administration, including provisioning, patching individual systems, basic troubleshooting, and implementing security hardening for enterprise environments is required
  • Experience with Linux installation hardware troubleshooting and configuration
  • Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Linux, and Ubuntu Linux on physical systems, including implementing encryption-at-rest (LUKS)
  • Deploy robust Linux virtual machines using automation tools and industry best practices to ensure rapid scalability, optimized performance, and robust security in mission-critical environments
  • Patch, reboot, and troubleshoot patching processes (e.g. GPU drivers & kernel modules) and patching infrastructure on large networks and in stand-alone (air-gapped) networks
  • Provide enterprise Linux troubleshooting, tier 2 and 3 Linux user support including software installation, configuration
  • This position requires ability to obtain andmaintaina security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship isrequiredto obtain a security clearance

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for Linux Administrator (Systems Administration Staff III) include:

  • A minimum of (3) or more years of increasingly responsible and relevant professional experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or its clones (CentOS, Oracle, Rocky, Alma) Linux systems administration, including provisioning, patching individual systems, basic troubleshooting, and implementing security hardening for enterprise environments is required
  • One or more of the following:certification such as Red Hat Certified System Administrator, bash or shell scripting skill, Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g. Puppet, Ansible) skills & experience, Linux performance troubleshooting & tuning, experience configuring and managing access to NFS file system shares, Active Directory integration with Linux is required

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • DoD approved 8570 baseline certification such as Security+, CISSP, or equivalentis strongly preferred
  • Experience automating & scaling Linux system administration across many systems is a value add
  • LUKS (+Clevis and Tang) skill or experience is desirable
  • Ubuntu Linux skill and experience is preferred
  • The ability to obtain andmaintaina Secret security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government is ideal. A Top Secret security clearance or TS/SCI is strongly preferred. U.S. citizenship isrequiredto obtain a security clearance

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
