AUTOMATION SHOP WELDER / FABRICATOR

COMSTOCK PARK, MICHIGAN - LEAR ASI AUTOMATION DIVISION

NATURE OF WORK:

Seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Welder Fabricator with experience in automation equipment and machine shop environments. This role involves welding, fabricating, and assembling custom components and machinery used in automated systems. The ideal candidate will be proficient in reading blueprints, working with tight tolerances, and collaborating with engineering and other teams to bring complex designs to life.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED



  • Interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings accurately.
  • Fabricate and weld components for industrial machinery and assemblies using MIG and TIG processes
  • Fabricate parts using saws, grinders, shears, brakes, and other shop tools.
  • Assemble mechanical systems and automation equipment per engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Perform quality checks and make adjustments as needed to meet specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and electricians to ensure proper fit and function of assemblies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety standards
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: Effectively collaborate with management and team members
  • Assist in training new team members on welding techniques and shop safety
  • Team Building: Foster mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among all team members



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:



  • Blueprint & Technical Drawing Interpretation
  • MIG and TIG welding
  • Metal Fabrication (Steel, Aluminum, Stainless)
  • Press brake and shear
  • Mechanical Assembly & Equipment Installation
  • Forklift & Overhead Crane Operation
  • Safety Compliance (OSHA, PPE)
  • Team Collaboration & Communication
  • Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others, and have a positive attitude
  • Must be results oriented, focused, and attentive to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledgeable of automation components preferred, but not required
  • Must have ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of welding/fabrication experience in a machine shop or automation environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assembly and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems is a plus.
  • AWS certification is a plus but not required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
