ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Director, Wastewater Development to join our team. The position is virtual with frequent travel (50% to 70%) including overnight stays.

The Director of Wastewater Development (DWWD) will lead the scope development efforts for all potential projects across the ESG platform and manage the workflow and deliverables of the wastewater development engineers.

The DWWD will identify and evaluate technical issues that include but are not limited to evaluation of water and wastewater treatment plant operation, performance, equipment, energy consumption, and system design.

The DWWD works with the Business Development Team to review the initial pursuit strategy, potential and proposed scopes of work, preliminary evaluations of biological, chemical, and mechanical processes of water and wastewater treatment plants to determine potential opportunities.

The DWWD leads the development workflows from project identification, through project development, to contracting.

The DWWD is responsible for reviewing and approving design requirements from design contractors, supporting the development of construction documents, development of specification documents, reviewing of vendor submittal documents, equipment shop drawings and contractor documents.

The DWWD reviews and approves all potential scopes of work, coordination efforts ensuring there are no scope gaps, develops pricing matrices, answer questions, troubleshoot issues, and develops solutions that may arise during the pursuit and development phases of the project.

The DWWD ensures that project intent and deliverables are maintained from conceptual or partial design and constructability expectation through project contracting.

The DWWD leads the development effort to verify the energy reductions and revenue enhancements forecasted, works with customers and managers to satisfy customer requests and concerns, and assists the construction team to ensure smooth installations and achieve exceptional results for the customer.

The essential functions of the position include:



  • Review and approve proposed scopes of work ensuring they address the performance and process needs for proposed wastewater treatment project and address client deliverables
  • Review and approve process and equipment sizing and requirements to support proposed solutions
  • Review and approve appropriate equipment and suppliers to provide successful projects
  • Develop documents for the selection, procurement and delivery of selected equipment
  • Review and approve proposed contractors and engineering sub-consultants to ensure coordination of all construction scopes of work, drawings and construction documents allow for proper installation of equipment
  • Facilitate adequate communication among the internal team, sub-contractors, and customers by creating technical plans (both written and schematic) to convey solutions and risk
  • Review of RFIs from contractors and clients during project development
  • Maintains full technical understanding of energy and plant/facility operations and serves as the ongoing technical resource consultant for the customer
  • Performs related work as required


Your background includes:



  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited Engineering/Technology program or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years' experience with a water/wastewater design firm or construction firm with water/wastewater construction projects
  • Professional Engineering License (PE)
