Job Summary

The Staff Research Associate I / II will conduct research on cell biology and its application to immune-associated diseases in the laboratory; perform experiments involving gene cloning, tissue processing, cell culture, microscopy, flow cytometry, retroviral transduction, and other biochemical procedures; breed, screen, immunize, and dissect transgenic mice; help purchase and maintain equipment; order supplies. This individual will contribute to research projects by generating datasets and testing hypotheses using methods established in the lab including cell culture, flow cytometry, gene targeting using CRISPR-Cas9 and gene expression analysis.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).

The Department of Neurological Surgery at UCSF is home to leading physicians and scientists dedicated to treating patients with neurosurgical disorders and to the search for better therapies and cures. Required Qualifications

SRA I:

  • BA/BS degree in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience working in a research laboratory
  • Familiarity with pertinent laboratory techniques
  • Willingness to make a two-year commitment to the lab

SRA 2: In addition to the above
  • BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications


  • MS in biology or a related field
  • Prior experience with R or Python programming
  • Neuroscience / cancer backgroun
