| Position Description: |
The Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation and the Organ Transplant Center at the University of Iowa Health Care is seeking an abdominal transplant surgeon for the positions of Director of the Iowa Health Care Organ Transplant Center and Director, Division of Transplant Surgery in the Department of Surgery. Appointment rank must be at the Associate or Full Professor level in either the tenure or clinical track consistent with clinical experience and research interest. The ideal candidate will have expertise in liver transplant surgery as well as leadership experience. University of Iowa Health Care has supported a UNOS approved solid organ transplant program for over 40 years and the Iowa Health Care Organ Transplant Center (OTC) is recognized as a regional and national Center of Excellence ( www.UIHealthcare.org/transplant ). The OTC is a multi-disciplinary, cross-institutional collaboration between the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, University of Iowa Physicians practice group, and the Carver College of Medicine (and between Departments within the CCOM) designed to manage patients across the arc of their care, in a single locus, to best align the goals and missions of these stakeholders by putting the patient in the center of its focus. The Director of the OTC leads a dedicated team of more than 70 professionals dedicated to the care of kidney, liver and pancreas transplant and advanced, complex hepato-biliary surgery patients. The Division Director in the Department of Surgery leads 4 additional solid organ transplant surgeons and is responsible for the academic, administrative, financial, quality and operational aspects of the division under the auspices of the Chair of Surgery. Candidates must hold an MD, DO, or an equivalent degree Candidates must have completed training in all phases of General Surgery Candidates must possess transplant training from an ASTS-approved liver transplant fellowship, preferably to include training in kidney, kidney-pancreas transplantation as well as deceased and laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy |
| Required Qualifications: |
- Candidates must meet OPTN criteria to be the Primary Surgeon for Liver Transplant Programs
- Candidate must provide appropriate documentation of meeting primary liver surgeon and, if able, living donor liver surgeon requirements as outlined in the OPTN By laws
- Applicants with established research are preferred and appointment to the tenure track requires research experience at a level which enables procurement of outside funding

Applicants must possess board eligibility/certification in Surgery from the American Board of Surgery

| Desirable Qualifications: |
- Five years of experience as a post-fellowship trained, attending liver transplant surgeon is highly desirable
- Prior leadership experience in a transplant program is preferred
- Experience in living donor liver transplantation desirable
- Experience with Normothermic Machine Perfusion & Normothermic Regional Perfusion desirable
