The Department of Medicine (DoM) is the largest department within the UCSD School of Medicine (SoM) and is responsible for fulfilling its teaching, research, and clinical missions. DoM employees approximately 500 salaried faculty, nearly 200 academic appointees, and more than 300 residents, fellows, and postdocs, supported by almost 1,000 staff members. The Sponsored Projects Office (SPO) functions within DoM Administration and interfaces with data and individuals throughout the department, SoM, campus, and Health System regarding financial and operational matters. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director--Sponsored Projects office, this position is responsible for providing comprehensive financial analysis and pre-award grant submission support for multiple divisions in the Department of Medicine. The divisions' financial management involves multiple faculty and funding sources ranging from Federal, State, private grants, contracts, gifts, investigator initiated clinical trials, sub awards, fellowships, service agreements, and UC Foundation transfers. The incumbent will work with multiple international and domestic institutions and multiple sites (e.g. VA, Salk, Scripps Research Institute, Children's Hospital, Baylor University, Harvard University, University of Texas, John Hopkins, and universities in South America, Africa, and Mexico). This position will directly interface with Division Chiefs and faculty to support the research mission of the Department of Medicine. The incumbent will use skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to independently develop and / or oversee research proposals, awards and / or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. This position will work on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations. In addition to pre-award support, this position will be responsible for managing individual faculty member funding profiles. This may include sponsored and non-sponsored projects in alignment with the funding agency supporting the faculty's work. Working with domestic and international partners, this position will seek to ensure sound financial management of sponsored and non-sponsored awards through proactive collaborations with faculty.
