Job Summary

The Fiber Testing and Splicing Lead Technician is responsible for leading field teams on commercial construction projects involving fiber optic installation, testing, and splicing. This role provides hands-on technical leadership, oversees daily installation activities, coordinates closely with project management, and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards. The position requires strong communication skills, technical expertise in structured cabling systems, and the ability to travel extensively to support projects nationwide.

Job Responsibilities




  • Lead and supervise field teams performing fiber optic testing, splicing, and structured cabling installations on commercial construction sites



  • Oversee installation of cable pathways, including cable tray, ladder rack, and conduit systems



  • Perform and verify new cable installations, terminations, testing, and equipment installation



  • Coordinate with the project manager on weekly work plans, schedules, and material delivery



  • Communicate effectively with other trades onsite to support a smooth and efficient construction process



  • Ensure all installations meet project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements



  • Provide guidance and technical support to technicians and junior staff



  • Maintain accurate documentation, redlines, and progress reporting as required




Job Requirements




  • Strong working knowledge of fiber optic testing and splicing in commercial construction environments



  • Experience with structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber infrastructure



  • Ability to lead crews and manage daily field activities



  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and installation plans



  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills



  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 100% as required by project needs



  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders or lifts, and perform job duties for extended periods




Education




  • High School Diploma or GED preferred




Work Experience




  • Prior experience as a lead technician or supervisor in fiber optic or low voltage commercial construction projects
