Position Summary

Work involves responsibility for planning, organizing, and directing the administrative and managerial functions of the Poultry Research Center (PRC) and supervising and participating in experimental farm programs and projects requiring the implementation of complex research procedures. Work also includes extensive farm labor and maintenance. Work is performed under the general direction of the PRC Manager. Work is reviewed principally through the observation of results and periodic conferences.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Thorough knowledge of principles, methods, & techniques of practical farm management as related to institutional needs and purposes.

Thorough knowledge of animal husbandry and of farm building and equipment care and maintenance.

Ability to plan and direct large scale diversified farm activities, to supervise large groups of farm workers in farm activities and to direct skilled and unskilled employees in varied farm operations.

Ability to keep records and follow SOP's.

Repeatedly lift, pull and push 50+ pounds.

Perform heavy manual labor for extensive periods of time.

Caring for research animals. Feeding, watering, temperature monitoring. Assisting scientists with research projects, weighing animals, and collecting data.
