We are seeking a Junior Systems Certification Engineer to support the U.S. Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). NSWCDD is part of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and serves as the Navy's leading organization for the research, development, testing, systems engineering, and integration of advanced naval warfare systems.

NSWCDD plays a critical role in delivering cutting-edge combat capabilities for the Navy, Joint Forces, and the Nation. Its mission focuses on innovation across areas such as directed energy, digital engineering, and combat systems to ensure the future fleet remains effective, affordable, and technologically superior.

Position Description:

You will be part of a team of approximately 100 contractors supporting a Combat Systems Engineering contract and will serve as a member of a 16-person Systems Certification Team. This team supports certification activities across the full lifecycle of naval warfare systems.

Work Location and Telework:

The primary government worksite is Dahlgren, VA. You may be required to work on-site or near the base up to five (5) days per week, depending on customer needs. Limited telework or contractor-site work may be available with government approval.

Responsibilities and Duties:

This role supports Combat Systems Engineering in accordance with the Defense Acquisition Guide, providing systems engineering support across the full system life cycle of naval warfare systems. You will support the NSWCDD V Department with Advanced Ship and Combat System Integration Engineering, including:

  • AEGIS modernization and in-service combat systems engineering
  • DDG-1000 mission systems engineering
  • Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS) engineering
  • Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV), and Frigate combat systems
  • AEGIS Combat Direction System and Ballistic Missile Defense systems
  • Operations and force analysis
  • LBTTS planning and activation
  • Enterprise systems engineering support
  • Modeling and simulation
  • Combat system virtualization for the U.S. Marine Corps
  • Foreign Military Sales (FMS)
  • Future surface Navy combat systems

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, science, or a technical discipline OR four (4) years of demonstrated relevant technical experience
  • Four (4) years of experience applying engineering and certification policies to support new technologies, critical experiments, and emerging development efforts
  • Experience using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) from certification planning through decision milestones (e.g., SWIRs, IPRs, MRAs, CSCPs)
  • Experience managing and disseminating Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) through web-based tools and maintaining complete records management

Preferred Qualifications/Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Secret Clearance
  • Prior experience supporting NSWC Dahlgren or NSWC Crane

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel is not expected but could include occasional trips to Navy fleet-centric locations
