Introduction to the job

ASML US brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Chandler, Arizona, San Jose and San Diego, California, Wilton, Connecticut, and Hillsboro, Oregon.
We are currently recruiting for an internship located at our office in Wilton, Connecticut.
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Your Assignment:
  • Investigate cleaning methodologies and their impact on different material surfaces, i.e. efficacy, positive and negative changes at the part surface
  • Understand particle & molecular contaminants transport mechanism in product and test equipment
  • Characterize type and amount of contamination by collecting contamination samples and performing relevant tests
  • Investigate material issues / challenges using appropriate material diagnostic tools like SEM, AFM, WLI, spectroscopy, etc.
  • Clearly communicate progress and status of ongoing technical activities to senior management
  • Write cleanliness and contamination control procedures and train technicians to efficiently implement the procedure in manufacturing.
  • Give presentation to the department at the end of the internship as well as poster to intern community
Your Profile:
  • Minimum: Pursuing a Bachelors (upcoming Junior or senior)/ master's degree in chemistry / related surface science / engineering fields
  • Preferred: Pursuing Master's or PhD degree in chemistry / related surface science / engineering fields
  • Strong background of course work and experimental and research background in chemistry, preferred focus on contamination and defect detection
  • Good understanding and experience in verification methods (white light interferometer, ICP-MS, SEM, AFM, ToF-SIMS, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR, etc.)
  • Knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python for data analysis and automation programming
  • Ability to work in the clean room environment implementing knowledge in material and material interaction (especially glass, ceramics, thin film materials, gasses, etc.), with deep understanding of the fundamentals of friction and wear processes
  • Excellent experimental skills
  • Be able to interface with multidisciplinary groups and work effectively in a team and be willing to take on responsibility

Other information

This position is located on-site in Wilton, CT. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, training courses and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration, and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • May require travel (specify domestic and/or international) dependent on business needs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Role within the Factory

Responsibilities

  • Must be willing to work in a clean room environment, wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses and gloves for entire duration of shift.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Additional Responsibilities:

There is potential for exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage and currents.
