Harmony Biosciences is recruiting for a Senior Director, Head of Medical Sciences Liaisons. This role is a field-based position responsible for leading and empowering a strong performing US MSL organization. Working closely with senior members of the Medical Affairs department and cross-functional partners. The Senior Director, Head of MSLs serves as scientific expert and is responsible for hiring, training and leading activities of the MSL team in support of the Medical Affairs strategy. This position requires demonstrated capability to lead a team of MSLs in complex disease areas, a deep understanding of how MSLs can develop professional relationships with medical thought leaders and cross-functional partners, and a full understanding of the relevant compliance framework for MSL activities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead a high-quality U.S. MSL team scaled and organized to support the scientific exchange of disease information related to Harmony's products with key external stakeholders
  • Develop field medical strategy and tactical plan in alignment with overall Medical Affairs strategy
  • Develop strong and appropriate collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners
  • Execute and update (as needed) a robust scientific training program to ensure MSL team members are knowledgeable and prepared for their responsibilities when interfacing with external experts.
  • Design MSL training programs for new products and therapeutic areas as needed.
  • Develop annual goals and objectives for MSL team in alignment with company and department goals and objectives; develop and monitor key performance indicators
  • Ensure MSL activities and scientific communications are conducted in an ethical and compliant manner
  • Accompany MSL team members during field-based interactions with external stakeholders to monitor and provide continuous performance feedback
  • Act as a member of Medical Affairs Leadership Team
  • Provide feedback from field insights on emerging clinical trends through consistent communication with the Medical Affairs Medical Director and other cross-functional partners as appropriate
  • Support Harmony clinical development program as needed through field-based operational and educational support
  • Lead development and execution of MSL strategies at medical congresses and collaborate with Medical Information to support relevant activities within the Medical Affairs Booth.
  • Provide scientific support for appropriate educational initiatives.
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with company policies and SOPs and team is kept up to date with all compliance trainings.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in strongly preferred (MD, PhD, PharmD) and commensurate experience required: 10+ years of industry (pharmaceutical or biotech) experience, including 5+ years of MSL leadership experience
  • Experience working with Neurology or Rare Disease preferred
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills required
  • Strong presentation and education skills; ability to communicate clinical and non-clinical technical information effectively
  • Thorough grasp of the pharmaceutical industry, FDA requirements and PhRMA code
  • Expert understanding of the health care delivery systems and its impact on patient care
  • Values based collaborator - respectful, accountable and collaborative
  • Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule
  • Ability to make decisions which have a significant impact on the department's credibility, operations, and services
  • Ability to create materials such as reports, presentations for inside and outside the organization, and present/speak to groups

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position has supervisory responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, motivate and develop small groups in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment, as required
  • Strong computer, organizational, and analytical skills required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate to colleagues, business partners, stakeholders and upper management across varied styles and cultures
  • Must think critically and creatively, and be able to determine appropriate resources for resolution of problems and have strong organizational and planning skills

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Domestic travel is estimated to be 50% of the time for this position.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and /or move more than 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision.
  • Manual dexterity required to use computers, tablets, and cell phone.
