Description A Brief Overview

The Nursing Director, oversees the design, development, implementation and evaluation of models, processes and standards to improve nursing operations, nursing practice, care delivery, the patient experience, and care management across the care continuum within the context of Cleveland Medical Center and the UH System goals. The Nursing Director also provides directional guidance to patient and clinical education standards. The Director develops the goals, implementation plans and performance standards to facilitate the delivery of high quality, safe, cost-effective and consistent care.

What You Will Do

  • * Strategically plans for, leads and facilitates organizational change and adaptation consistent with evolving health care environment.

  • * Coordinates, evaluates and facilitates implementation and monitoring of Quality standards.
  • * Ensures programming services are consistent with the nursing care model.

  • Vision & Values
    * Establish a culture of collaboration and integration that enhances the provision of excellent patient care and patient satisfaction, and provides a safe patient care environment.
    * Drive a patient-centric culture.
    * Maintain a strong knowledge of healthcare policies and understand business impact of administrative directives.
    * Anticipate and act on emerging healthcare trends to position the nursing for the future, in conjunction with other UH Nursing leaders.
    * Establish a culture of engagement, open communication, accountability and timely decision-making.
  • System-Wide Strategy
    * Work closely and collaboratively with senior leaders, directors, nursing leaders, nursing staff and physicians to deliver the strategy.
    * Drive the UH Nursing culture across all locations.
    * Align the strategy of the assigned nursing area to the system nursing strategy.
  • Strategy and Operations
    * Participate in setting direction for nursing clinical and advocacy arenas.
    * Provide direction to the operations and management of clinical education to ensure alignment within nursing staffing plans and growth strategies, and to maintain quality and accreditation standards.
    * Serve as a leader for nursing workforce development to increase availability of nurses in collaboration with system nursing leadership and HR.
    * Design, develop, implement and manage models, standards and processes that directly improve the value of nursing. Improve overall organizational performance, and improve clinical, service, risk and operational outcomes.
    * Develop and maintain nursing and clinical infrastructure to enhance decision making and decrease variance in care, quality and safety.
    * Develop, implement and measure interventions to reduce turnover and increase caregiver retention
    * Facilitate clinical best practice sharing across nursing specialties.
    * Develop, implement and evaluate operating and capital budgets and oversee financial management for areas of line responsibility including explanation of variances regarding financials and FTEs.
    * For inpatient areas, collaborate across disciplines to address LOS variances from targets
    * Provide oversight for quality of nursing care and care transitions.
    * Direct and coordinate the strategic planning process for Cleveland Medical Center nursing, in collaboration with the CNO and system nursing leadership to maximize efficiency, capacity, state of the art technology, etc.
    * Evaluate measures of patient experience across the care continuum in collaboration with system strategy and performance improvement process.
    * Drive execution of patient experience strategic initiatives
    * Work in collaboration with nursing leaders to ensure partnership in practice and experience.
    * Maintain leadership role in practice and competencies as they relate to the role of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and care partners according to the ANA standards of practice
    * Work in collaboration with Chief Nursing Officer regarding any clinical issues and or practice that are subject to board disclosure.
  • Policy and Compliance
    * Execute nursing-related clinical policies.
    * Assure regulatory standards and drive compliance across nursing specialty Enable nursing professional development and excellence.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
