Embry-Riddle: A Global Leader in Aviation and Aerospace

With vibrant campuses in Daytona Beach, FL, and Prescott, AZ-along with a Worldwide network spanning roughly 120 global locations-Embry-Riddle proudly stands as the world's largest aviation and aerospace university. Now celebrating our 100th year, we continue to lead innovation in STEM education, serving more than 30,000 students worldwide. Our cutting-edge programs in Applied Science, Aviation, Business, Technology, Engineering, Safety, Security, and Space prepare the next generation of leaders shaping the future of flight and beyond.

The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle is seeking a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist who brings technical depth, professional maturity, and a team-centered mindset to a campus environment that depends on collaboration, responsiveness, and strong relationships.

This position serves as one of the university's principal subject-matter experts in environmental compliance and hazardous materials management. It leads complex, high-impact regulatory programs, advises departments across the academic and operational spectrum, and strengthens ERAU's long-term environmental and occupational safety strategy.

Beyond the technical work, the role positively influences how safety and environmental stewardship are viewed and practiced across campus. The specialist helps reinforce a culture where people communicate openly, take responsibility for their work environments, support one another, and make decisions grounded in prevention. The ideal candidate is dependable, approachable, and able to connect with people in labs, shops, research areas, classrooms, facilities, and administrative offices.

This is a position for someone who wants to lead through influence rather than authority, who is invested in raising the bar for environmental and safety performance, and who values working in a mission-driven academic community.

Key Responsibilities

* Serve as the senior technical authority for environmental compliance and hazardous materials management
* Lead and manage complex regulatory programs, including hazardous waste operations, RCRA compliance, chemical management, and environmental reporting support.
* Develop program improvements, corrective actions, and long-term strategies to reduce risk and strengthen compliance across academic, research, and operational environments
* Collaborate with faculty, researchers, facilities teams, administrators, and students to foster shared ownership of environmental and occupational safety responsibilities
* Support and advise departments on risk reduction methods, incident prevention strategies, and best practices
* Build and maintain strong working relationships that improve communication, trust, and transparency
* Lead continuous improvement efforts that strengthen reporting practices, environmental stewardship, and campus-wide safety engagement
* Assist in evaluating environmental and safety risks, insurance considerations, and regulatory impacts across multiple operations
* Represent EHS in cross-functional initiatives, guiding stakeholders through technical requirements and practical solutions
* Reinforce a positive, prevention-focused culture through consistent, ethical, and reliable decision-making

What success looks like in this role

A successful Senior EHS Specialist at ERAU:
* Builds credibility quickly through expertise, follow-through, and strong communication
* Helps others understand requirements in a way that encourages partnership instead of compliance fatigue
* Responds promptly, solves problems collaboratively, and maintains steady professionalism even under pressure
* Strengthens reporting, accountability, and preventative approaches across campus
* Contributes to long-term improvements rather than temporary fixes
* Serves as a trusted advisor, not just a technical resource
