The Facilities and Field Services (FFS) Project Planning and Development (PPD) Sr. Architect is responsible for planning, directing, and executing architectural design assignments of varying complexity, from interior renovations to new-build construction projects. This role involves collaborating with internal customers and professionals such as architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and consultants to confirm program requirements, establish design criteria aligned with corporate standards, and ensure the accuracy of design documentation. The Sr. Architect manages and approves design changes in accordance with corporate guidelines, provides expertise in architectural programming, planning, and ergonomics, and responds efficiently to both routine and critical projects. Supporting a diverse portfolio, the Sr. Architect oversees capital projects, administers the corporate furniture and equipment program (XM1), conducts space assessments, and maintains high design standards to promote efficient operations, employee productivity, and positive public impact. Responsibilities also include coordinating with stakeholders to resolve field design changes, managing space planning and office standards, recording spatial data in the MRI Manhattan Space management software, developing spatial layouts, collaborating with the Real Estate team on allocations and occupancy, generating occupancy reports and growth forecasts, coordinating building space audits, and addressing day-to-day space planning requests, all while upholding corporate design standards. Job functions will include but are not limited to representing the section or department to resolve and/or to plan and coordinate design and field work. This position's objective is to have in-house architectural SME to respond consistently and efficiently to planned, emergency and critical projects within FFS and in support of the Real Estate Strategy and portfolio. The ideal candidate will be energetic, motivated, organized, and possess strong written and oral communication, presentation and leadership skills, with demonstrated initiative and commitment to safety, teamwork, and excellence. They must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects, often working to tight project deadlines. Core Responsibilities
- Conduct extensive field inspections, including measured surveys, while working with Facilities and IT to integrate their respective disciplines as part of the design.
- Develop and maintain floor plans, names to desk information in the Companys Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS). This includes drafting in AutoCAD or its equivalent. Coordinate closely with the Real Estate team and internal customers to ensure information is reasonably current and leveraged for corporate-level reporting and informed business decisions.
- Review project plans to ensure conformance to NYS, NYC building codes to include the Energy Conservation Code, NYC Local Laws, FDNY regulations, NYC Department of Buildings, and ADA Guidelines, and or other legal regulations.
- Oversee, coordinate, and assess the work of architects, designers, engineers, and contractors. Develop ergonomic design solutions. Prepare and analyze cost estimates, schedules, and project documents. Review and approve architectural design scope in the company's records system. Collect, analyze, survey, and summarize data to prepare project scope and reports. Present designs to stakeholders and make revisions as needed for final approval.
- Improve job knowledge through continuing education, reviewing professional and technical publications, and benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
- The Sr Architect will lead or assist in the evaluation of space throughout our facilities. He/She will primarily support the Capital and Operations & Maintenance budgets of Facilities Real Estate, which includes the buildings and yards of various Service Centers and Commercial Buildings, and may support projects associated with other customers of Steam Distribution, Substation Operations, Electrical Operations, Information Technology, Transportation Operations, etc.
- Acts as an in-house SME in the field of Architecture. Ensures compliance with NYC Building Code, accessibility standards, Con Ed Safety regulations, and corporate design guidelines.
- Review, create, and develop design solutions that align with company priorities for safety, operational excellence, customer experience, cost consciousness, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Develop, review, and approve furniture specifications.
- Have knowledge of energy conservation, LEED, and green energy solutions to support Con Ed's sustainability practices.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field of study and eight to ten (8-10) years of relevant work experience in Facilities, Engineering or Project Planning and/or Real Estate or
- Master's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant work experience in Facilities, Engineering or Project Planning and/or Real Estate
Preferred Education/Experience
- Master's Degree Architecture, Engineering or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant work experience in Facilities, Engineering or Project Planning and/or Real Estate
Relevant Work Experience
- Must be a motivated individual with strong leadership abilities and demonstrated initiative, required.
- Must possess strong analytical skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities, with a proven record of accomplishments in providing architectural support for various types of projects, required.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills as well as good oral and written communication skills to interact with departments and (internal and external) customers at all levels, required.
- 8 years of experience in areas of design and application of architectural and or engineering principles in assigned areas of expertise, required.
- 4 years of experience with construction administration or project management, required.
- 2 years of experience working with city, state, government codes, laws, and regulations, required.
- 6 years of experience preparing budgets, project estimates and schedules, required.
- Must demonstrate good spatial and visual judgement with the ability to interpret and execute design goals, required.
- Must possess a balance between creative, technical, and analytical thinking with the ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem solve, and prioritize tasks efficiently, required.

Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the entire shift.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions and off shift hours, as needed.
- Must be able and willing to travel within the Company service territory, as needed.
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment and storm planning as may be needed to restore service to our customers. System Emergency Assignment could include the need to report and work in the field during system or storm emergency events.
- Must be able to read small print and symbols.
