Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the General Manager and Head ofClinical Operations-North America, the Vice President of US GovernmentAffairs willbe responsible fordeveloping and executinggovernment affairs strategies across theUnited States, with the goal of strengthening access andutilizationof diagnostics across the patient pathway.The incumbent will develop a strong relationship andsharedvision with the company's senior business leaders,establishingan external affairs mission which helps to create and deliver competitive strength to the organization. TheVice President, Government Affairswill lead the creation and execution of specific external affairs strategies and programs to ensure significantly increased reputation and understanding of the company with respect to its strategic positioning in the industry.The role entails collaborating across the business enterprise andengagingexternally withkey opinion leaders, policy makers, regulatory agencies, industry associations,civil society, and advocacy groups, to inform and influence policy outcomes that align with bioMerieux's mission and businessgoals.

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Supportbusinessleadership toadvancebioMerieux's policy platform andGovernment Affairs strategy.

    • Working with local leadership, develop and implement comprehensivepublicaffairs strategies forthe United States, aligned with the organization's globalobjectivesand regional priorities.

    • Oversee the development and dissemination of positions to help advance the company'sobjectives, including testimony, comments on regulations, and external affairs-related talking points and messages for use by company leadership.

    • AdvancebioMerieux'sleadershipin industry associations to ensure aligned positions.

    • Partner withleadershipto coordinate and lead cross-functional teams to drive advocacy efforts, engage with stakeholders, and achieve favorable policy outcomes that support the company's growth and market access.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Be the established point of contact andmaintainworking relationships with governmentofficialsmembers of business, trade and political associations,civil society, advocacy organizations,and other segments of society directly involved with the public policy process at the highest levels.

    • Lead policy engagement, organizing responses to stakeholder consultations, building alliances and relationships across theUnited States.

    • AnalyseUnited Statespolicy and regulatory developments and prepare reports, with recommendations, forbioMerieux.

    • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and policy forums to promote thought leadership, contribute to policy discussions, and enhance the company's reputation.

    • Collaborate with internal experts to provide key information to external stakeholders.

    • Manage/coordinate projects as a representative ofbioMerieuxin prioritized organizations

  • Federal Policy Advocacy:
    • Foster a proactive, rather than reactive orientation in the external affairs arena

    • In collaboration withglobalcolleagues,monitordevelopments of interest and concern, keeping executive leadership informed of potential impactson the organization's overall operations, products, and market access. Recommend andimplementsolutions to such issues.

    • Develop position papers, white papers, and advocacy campaigns toinformpolicy debates and position the company as an industry leader in key regions.

    • Lead and support advocacy campaigns that address policy challenges, raise awareness about healthcare needs, and foster collaboration with local stakeholders.

  • StateLevel Advocacy:
    • Drive state public affairs strategy across U.S. priority states to advance policies supporting diagnostic innovation and patient access andprovidetimelyinsights on emerging state policy risks and opportunities affecting coverageandregulation.

    • Engage with state legislators, health agencies, and coalitions on issuesimpactingdiagnostics, including regulatory alignment with FDA, reimbursement frameworks tied to CMS, and state-level laboratory or public health policy.

  • Compliance:
    • Collaborate with the Compliance team to ensure thatGovernmentAffairsactivities adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and industry guidelines.

    • Provide guidance/training to local teams on regulatory compliance, ethical standards, and risk management as they relate to government affairs efforts.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate closely with business leaders, legal, regulatory, and communications teams to ensure alignment ofGAstrategies with businessobjectives.

    • Partner with the VP of Public Health Policy and Strategic Engagement to share insights,support the development of proactive strategies aligned toUnited Statespriorities, and ensure advocacy aligns to global policy priorities.

    • Provide insights to inform market entry, expansion, and product launch strategies based on regulatory and policy considerations.

  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Build and lead a high-performingUSGovernment Affairsteam, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities.

    • Foster a collaborative culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement within theUS Government Affairs teamand with theircounterpartat Global Public & Government Affairs.

Education, Skills, & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in law, political science, international relations, public affairs, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).

    • 12+ years of progressive experience in government affairs, public policy, trade association, or nonprofit within the healthcare or life sciences industry in the United States.

    • 8+years experienceinpeopleleadership with the ability to guide and inspire cross-functional teams toward shared goals.

  • Estimated 30-60% travel required. This position requires regular travel within the Washington DC area. Candidates based in the Washington DC area are preferred based on travel requirements and onsite responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing government affairs strategies that drive positive policy outcomes in diverse markets.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders from diverse cultures.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and diverse stakeholder landscapes.
