As a Metallurgical Engineer you will be an integral part of the team that drives ELLWOOD's success.

Key Responsibilities may include:

Metallurgical Analysis & Process Support



  • Perform metallurgical evaluations, including microstructural analysis, mechanical testing, heat-treatment verification, and failure analysis.
  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot metal-processing routes such as casting, forging, heat treating, welding, rolling, or machining.
  • Monitor material quality throughout the manufacturing process and ensure compliance with specifications.


Production Floor Support



  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to operators and supervisors to resolve metallurgical or process deviations.
  • Conduct root-cause investigations for defects, non-conformances, and equipment-related metallurgical issues.
  • Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).


Quality & Compliance



  • Ensure metallurgical processes align with industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO) and customer requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain metallurgical documentation, test reports, and production records.
  • Review and approve material certifications and metallurgical test results.


Continuous Improvement



  • Identify opportunities to improve product performance, yield, and throughput.
  • Lead metallurgical trials, process experiments, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Support new product development and qualification activities.


Required Skills & Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on metallurgical experience in a heavy manufacturing environment (steel, foundry, forging, machining, fabrication, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of metal properties, heat-treatment processes, failure mechanisms, and material specifications.
  • Experience with metallurgical lab equipment (hardness tester, microscope, tensile tester, spectrometer, etc.).
  • Ability to work on the shop floor, troubleshoot issues in real time, and communicate effectively with production teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with quality systems and industrial safety practices.


Additional qualifications



  • Experience with alloy steels, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, or high-temperature materials.
  • Knowledge of welding metallurgy or casting metallurgy.
  • Exposure to advanced characterization (SEM/EDS) or statistical process control (SPC).

Experience
5 years: Minimum 5 years of hands-on metallurgical experience in a heavy manufacturing environment (steel, foundry, forging, machining, fabrication, or similar). (preferred)
