Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $124,960 - $165,572. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Quality Engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our US QA department. As a Staff Design Quality Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Staff Design Quality Engineer is a recognized expert in ensuring design quality, taking ownership of complex quality initiatives and leading efforts to drive significant improvements in design processes. This role serves as a key advisor to engineering teams, championing quality methodologies to enhance product reliability and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Quality Oversight: Provide guidance and mentorship to engineering teams in applying advanced quality tools such as FMEA, reliability analysis and statistical process controls.
  • Strategic Process Improvements: Lead strategic quality initiatives to improve design processes and ensure alignment and organizational objectives.
  • Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) Reduction: Participate in cost of poor quality (COPQ) reduction and production stop activities by supporting root cause analysis and applying approved corrective measures.
  • Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) Feature: AEnsure consistent definition, documentation and application of critical-to-quality (CTQ) features across all design projects, leading partnerships with production, supply and logistics teams to implement robust control mechanisms that maintain CTQ integrity throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Drive complex root cause analyses for design-related quality issues and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Technical Expertise: Act as a subject matter expert in quality engineering, representing the function in high-visibility projects and customer interactions.
  • Project Leadership: Manage and oversee large-scale quality improvement projects that span multiple departments.
  • Quality Support & Collaboration: Provide quality support for operations, working closely with production teams to address quality-related issues and drive continuous improvements. Support the resolution of complex quality issues, utilizing advanced problem-solving tools to identify root causes and implement effective preventative measures.
  • Metrics & Feedback Utilization: Utilize quality feedback and metrics to identify opportunities for design and process improvements, sharing insights with leaders, partners and other key stakeholders.
  • Mentorship & Team Support: Coach, mentor and delegate work to other quality engineers, fostering a culture of continous learning and professional growth within the quality engineering team.
  • Industry Trends & Innovation: Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies, make improvement recommendations to leadership based on new insights.
  • Compliance: Understand and comply with all applicable company policies and rules.

What you'll Need To Succeed:

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a similar technical field.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in quality engineering focusing on design quality within the electrical industry or a related industry.
  • Expert level proficiency in APQP methodologies and their application in design.
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis tools used for quality analysis.
  • In depth understanding of design validation frameworks, including Design Verification and Validation (DVV). .
  • Strong background in product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the quality function.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Rounded attention to detail with an analytical mindset and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, navigate and resolve conflict, moderate behaviors, and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation). Able to liaise with key stakeholders outside the quality function in technical and non-technical roles and present compelling information to achieve buy-in.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc), including excellent Excel skills and experience using Power BI.

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or a similar technical field
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) Certification from ASQ

Environmental and Hazardous Conditions

  • Occasionally working indoors/outdoors in an air-conditioned/non-air-conditioned office/manufacturing/site-based environment.
  • Infrequently exposure to fumes/vapors/dust/gases/odors/mist/toxic chemicals/radiation/vibration/grease/oils/radiation/lasers/other etc.
  • Occasionally exposed to low/moderate/high noise levels including machinery/vehicles/forklifts/office equipment/office traffic etc.
  • Infrequently working around energized equipment with the risk of electrocution/scalding/burns/other etc.
  • Infrequently exposed to wet humid/outdoor weather/extreme cold (non-weather)/extreme heat (non-weather) conditions/other etc.
  • Infrequently working with machinery with moving parts/vehicles/forklifts/heavy machinery/sharp objects/other etc.
