About the Job

The Compliance Specialist manages the background check adjudications process for the entire university. The primary responsibilities include being the superuser and primary contact for the background check reporting systems, performing day-to-day operational and administrative activities for the team, including vendor and contract management, planning and logistics for TA events held weekly and monthly, and report preparation.

Location and Work environment: This is a hybrid position, with 1 - 2 days a week on campus. In-person work will be located on the UMN Twin Cities campus.

Work Schedule: Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.

Primary Responsibilities:
Background Check Process Management (90%)

  • Manages and oversees the background check process for the entire university. This includes background checks for Senior Administrators, Faculty, Staff, and Students
  • Works closely with the Talent Acquisition team to review background check results which have been flagged as not meeting company standards. The person in this role will function as a tier 2 level review for background checks that need more in-depth knowledge. This will include analyzing the results based on the following criteria: recency, severity, and relatedness of the crime. Independently makes the determination to allow the individual to be hired or determines that a hire cannot be made. Elevates some results to either the Director of TA and/or the Office of General Counsel.
  • Develop and deliver training on background check policies and procedures.
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for background check-related questions.
  • Manages the pre-adverse and adverse action process to ensure compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
  • Reviews monthly audit reports to ensure that background checks are conducted on all new hires or transfers as per our background check policy
  • Provides guidance and interpretation of the background check policy and ensures it is being followed.
  • Use Salesforce to track and manage background check questions and requests.
  • Provides reporting on a monthly basis to the leadership of Talent Acquisition.
  • Key background check contact to all departments of the university.
  • Responsible for reviewing the invoicing of the background checks. Follows up with vendor or campus contacts as needed.
  • Resolves background check-related issues with the vendor directly.
  • Actively leads the selection process for a potential background check vendor.

TA Procurement and Contract Management (10%)

  • Reconciles, processes, and tracks Talent Acquisition purchases and related contracts with vendors.
  • Requests purchase orders, requisitions requests for TA vendors.
  • Manages the talent acquisition procurement card.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Criminal Justice, Business Administration or related field or a combination of education and/or experience to equal at least four years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in HR, compliance, background check screening, talent acquisition or audit-related work
  • Administrative support experience is highly desired

Pay Range: $58,000-$63,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
