What to Expect
Tesla is accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer in our Body team, you'll lead the charge in revolutionizing vehicle body production for models like Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, and beyond. We're seeking innovative leaders who thrive in a fast-paced environment to drive efficiency, quality, and scalability in our Gigafactories.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design, optimization, and scaling of manufacturing processes (e.g., stamping, welding, Paint, joining, and assembly) to achieve world-class production rates while minimizing defects and costs
- Drive cross-functional projects with design, quality, supply chain, and automation teams to integrate advanced technologies like AI-driven robotics, predictive maintenance, and Industry 4.0 solutions for manufacturing operations
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement through training, knowledge sharing, and performance coaching
- Conduct strategic analyses (e.g., FMEA, root cause investigations) to resolve complex manufacturing challenges, such as material flow disruptions or high-voltage integration in EV bodies, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards
- Manage vendor relationships and budgets for equipment procurement, upgrades, and process validations, targeting metrics like 20%+ efficiency gains or 95%+ first-pass yield
- Innovate sustainable practices, such as lightweighting with advanced materials (aluminum, composites) and recycling integrations, aligning with Tesla's environmental goals
- Collaborate on new product introductions (NPI), from prototype to full-scale production, while anticipating scalability for future models and global expansion
- Analyze production data using tools like MES or ERP systems to forecast and mitigate bottlenecks, supporting Tesla's ambitious output targets (e.g., millions of vehicles annually)
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior role, preferably in automotive or high-volume assembly environments
- Proven expertise in CAD/CAE software (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX), process simulation tools (e.g., Arena, FlexSim), and manufacturing principles like Lean, Six Sigma (Black Belt certification a plus)
- Strong track record of leading projects that deliver measurable results, such as reducing cycle times, improving throughput, or cutting costs in body manufacturing
- Deep knowledge of automation and robotics (e.g., Fanuc, ABB) for welding, stamping, and assembly processes
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a "first principles" mindset, comfortable in high-pressure, dynamic settings
- Ability to travel up to 25% for Gigafactory support and supplier visits
