DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is seeking detail-oriented and proactive Bed Management Coordinators to join our 24/7 Mission Control. This role is responsible for the administrative functions of patient transfer intake, bed planning, and placement. The Bed Management Coordinator ensures that patients are assigned to the most appropriate beds in a timely manner, supporting safe, efficient, and seamless patient flow across the hospital system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign patients to appropriate beds based on clinical needs, acuity, and available capacity, ensuring timely placement across hospital units.
  • Collaborates with MC Enterprise Flow Nurse & Transfer Flow Nurse to ensure assignment of beds are clinically appropriate.
  • Continuously track and monitor bed occupancy, adjusting assignments as necessary to support admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Manage administrative duties related to patient transfers, collaborating with nursing teams, unit leaders, and the Transfer Center Flow Nurse to facilitate safe and efficient patient movement both within the hospital and from external facilities.
  • Assist in coordinating patient discharges and bed turnover, ensuring rooms are available for incoming patients.
  • Work closely with EVS & Transport to expedite bed turnover and patient pick-up and movement, helping to reduce delays.
  • Accurately update bed tracking systems and communicate real-time status changes during patient flow huddles and throughout the day.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in hospital operations, patient flow, bed management, or related administrative/clinical support role.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across clinical and non-clinical teams.

  • Proficiency with hospital information systems, bed management/tracking platforms.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • This is a 24/7 Command Center operation. Candidates must be available for variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $57,399 - $71,347 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.49 - $34.17

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
