HDR is looking for a Geotechnical EIT/Designer in one of our five North Carolina offices (Raleigh, Charlotte, Asheville, Winston-Salem, Wilmington). They will typically work under the direction of a licensed PE and be responsible for the geotechnical analysis and design of infrastructure projects including but not limited to roadways, retaining walls, bridges, buildings, dams, soils and rock slopes, asphalt and concrete pavements, etc. Opportunities exist to participate on high profile infrastructure projects in the southeast and across the United States (travel is required for site visits). They will also review boring logs, laboratory data, and design plans for a variety of geotechnical tasks such as slope stability, driven piles and drilled shafts, and provide project specific analysis for sites with seismic considerations, including liquefaction potential, slide remediation, ground improvement and others. They'll prepare drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports, and be expected to coordinate with project managers to implement measures to successfully meet all project goals and objectives. On a day-to-day basis, we'll expect the Geotechnical EIT/Designer to: * Travel throughout the Southeast to perform oversight of drilling operations, including logging and classifying soil and rock materials in accordance with applicable standards * Set up field exploration programs and coordinate with subcontractors * Conduct field inspections of construction activities, including earthwork and foundation installations * Have strong oral and written communication skills * Be capable of working independently or in a team environment assisting senior geotechnical staff * Perform assignments exercising judgement in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
Preferred Qualifications * MS in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related technical discipline required * EIT certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months required; candidates without their EIT will initially be titled "Geotechnical Designer" * Experience with GIS preferred. * Familiarity with CAD software (MicroStation) preferred. * Local candidates are preferred. * Must have a knowledge of soil mechanics. * Must have a familiarity with geotechnical engineering software and Microsoft office programs. * Must be willing to travel throughout the Southeast, mainly NC. * Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
