Murrey's Disposal is hiring a Swing Shift Diesel Mechanic in Fife, WA.

This is a great opportunity for experienced diesel mechanics and heavy truck technicians who are looking to grow their skills while working on a modern fleet of garbage trucks and maintaining yellow iron equipment at our transfer station.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, averaging 10 hours of overtime a week

Pay: $35.00-$36.00/hour + $1.50/hour shift differential
CDL Bonus: Additional $1.00/hour for CDL holders

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
  • Maintain and repair yellow iron equipment (e.g., loaders, compactors) at the transfer station.
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Address issues from Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs).
  • Maintain accurate records using fleet maintenance software.
  • Keep a clean, organized, and safety-compliant work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, supervisors, and fellow mechanics.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Work around large vehicles and heavy machinery in a busy, hands-on shop.
  • Exposure to noise, fumes, grease, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of tools, parts, and equipment - including items over 50 pounds unassisted.
  • On your feet for most of the shift, climbing in and out of vehicles, and using diagnostic and repair equipment.
  • We maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant workspace, and we expect every team member to contribute to upholding this standard.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of diesel mechanic or heavy truck repair experience (this is not an entry-level role).
  • Completion of a vocational or technical program is a plus.
  • CDL preferred (or willingness to obtain within 90 days).
  • Must have personal tools.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and service documentation.
  • Welding experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
