The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (
MAE) at Rutgers is a leading engineering program with state-of-the-art laboratories and close relations with local industry. The department has more than 40 full-time faculty with more than 1,100 undergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Packaging Engineering and more than 200 graduate students. The department is home to
the New Jersey Advanced Manufacturing Initiative that engages with industry on AI, advanced manufacturing, and workforce development. Other centers of research excellence include the
Center for Advanced Energy Systems and the

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Rutgers University invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position in Packaging Engineering. Candidates with expertise in the following areas are encouraged to apply: Automation and AI in the Circular Economy, Recyclable, and/or Bioinspired Packaging and Materials; Green Technologies; Sustainability and Product Life Cycle Analysis. The successful candidate is expected to have rich experiences in the applications of the areas listed above, in building industrial relations, and to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Packaging Engineering and related fields. The candidate is also expected to assist the current program in outreach activities and developing and maintaining industrial partnerships. Other responsibilities include advising undergraduate and graduate students and supervising student projects, activities, and organizations.
Appointments may be made in
one or more engineering departments based on the candidate's expertise and interests. While most positions are expected to be at the
assistant professor level (tenure-track and teaching),
consideration will also be given to more senior-level appointments, and all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
The ideal candidate should have:
An MS or PhD in Packaging Engineering, Materials, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in the Packaging Engineering field with an understanding of the future AI and Automation benefits, impacts, and challenges in the Circular Economy encompassing sustainability, economics, technology, legislation and infrastructure.
Experience with curriculum and course development is desirable.

Duties are primarily teaching assigned by department chair. Other duties may include coordinating and maintaining course related laboratory equipment, mentoring undergraduate students, linking with local K-12 schools for student recruitment, interacting with local industry, sharing administration responsibilities as well as other duties assigned by the Chairpersons.
