What to Expect
Tesla's Cathode team is looking for a highly motivated Process Modeling Engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world's energy transition - Battery Cathode Materials. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Tesla's world-class manufacturing facilities. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem of an incredibly exciting product. As a member of the design team, this engineer will develop and maintain advanced physics-based models of cathode materials manufacturing equipment and use the modeling results to optimize the equipment design, setup, and control performance. The candidate will also be expected to execute the design of experiments to gather relevant data to train, validate, and test the accuracy of the models.
What You'll Do
- Perform advanced CAE simulations to evaluate and enhance specific design attributes and manufacturing processes
- Develop and create multi-physics computational models to solve complex problems such as drying, calcination, and multiphase fluid mixing with a solid understanding of heat transfer, mass(moisture) transfer, and fluid mechanics
- Provide modeling support through the design progression and evolution with multi-disciplinary engineering teams guided by your analyses and simulations
- Conduct lab, pilot, and production experiments and tests to validate and improve the model
- Document and proactively share simulation and analysis tools and results across engineering partners
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or equivalent experience 2+ years of experience in research or manufacturing environments, with demonstrated expertise in CAE model development and implementation Experience in developing and analyzing Computational Fluid Dynamics models (Ansys Fluent, Altair AcuSolve,STAR CCM+, COMSOL, and/or similar CFD software) Experience in validation of computational models with lab/pilot scale experiments Experience creating custom numerical/analytic models from physics fundamentals Demonstrated talent for analyzing thermal and/or multi-physics systems and conceiving design solutions to complex engineering challenges Experience in developing and analyzing DEM (Discrete Element Method) models a plus Experience in developing and analyzing Finite Element Analysis models (Abaqus, Ansys Mechanical, COMSOL, and/or similar FEA software) a plus Experience in MATLAB, Python, or equivalent tools for modeling and analysis
