What to Expect
As a Tesla Automation Controls Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational availability of a wide array of manufacturing equipment and computer networks. You will apply your technical skills to install, maintain and repair mechanical and or electrical systems, factory automation and robotics equipment. A successful Controls Technician should perform coding using ignition scripting, python, and SQL queries to report data. You will work with the highest caliber controls and equipment engineering teams to improve equipment/network reliability while minimizing/eliminate downtime. Controls Technicians will work with facilities/design team to perform any network drop for any new lines/devices. In addition, these Technicians may wear a fall protection harness while working from heights or from a suspended position. Lastly, Controls Technicians will lift up to 50 lbs. and utilize other hand tools and power tools as needed.
What You'll Do
- Program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), such as Allen Bradley and Siemens, utilizing ladder logic and structured text
- Program ignition scripting utilizing python programming language
- Perform corrective maintenance by searching for error codes inside of the electrical panel for electrical systems ranging from 24 VDC to 480 VAC 3 phase
- Troubleshooting and repairs within the network for any Fanuc Robots
- Manage the thermodynamics of the equipment utilizing temperature control units (TCU) and thermal cameras
- Utilize SCADA for display reporting for aluminum being pushed, frequency of lubrication, product quality, scrap and die flow
- Assign IP address to any new device + configure to local network or plant network
What You'll Bring
- Five (5) or more years of experience working in a Controls Technician or Engineer role on production manufacturing equipment and/or have equivalent training or relevant education
- Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical assembly drawings and accurately measure and inspect tolerances
- Advanced computer skills (able to use job-specific PC applications and coach other users)
- Solid electrical knowledge (has a thorough understanding of electrical requirements and hazards)
- Advanced skills with voltmeter to check AC/DC voltage, able to diagnose issues, able to use a schematic diagram to troubleshoot electrical systems
- Proficient with pneumatics-solenoid valves, actuator, control operations and can read schematics and basic hydraulic system operations
- Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
Essential Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours/day
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
- Potential exposure to confined spaces, elevated heat and hazardous materials
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, arm protection, hearing protection and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines

Expected Compensation
$32.00 - $48.27/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
