Build Your Career. Build America's Future.

Vulcan Materials Company is the nation's largest producer of construction aggregates and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials including asphalt and ready-mixed concrete. When you join Vulcan, it's more than starting an exciting career - you get to make a difference for millions of people every day across the country.

When you join Vulcan, you join a dynamic culture in which career development is encouraged, excellence is rewarded, and diversity is valued. No matter the role or the location across the country, every member of the Vulcan team lives through the Vulcan Way: doing the right thing, the right way, at the right time.

We are seeking a highly skilled, self-motivated Industrial Plant Field Service Mechanic to serve as the mechanical backbone of our high-volume Ready-Mix concrete operations in the Southwest DC area.

This is a mobile field role offering significant autonomy and the opportunity to be the expert on the mechanical health of multiple critical production facilities.

The Challenge: High-Impact, Independent Maintenance

As an Industrial Plant Field Service Mechanic, you will be dispatched across a territory using a fully equipped company service truck. Your mission is to proactively maintain and rapidly diagnose complex mechanical failures on Ready-Mix Plant equipment. You are not just fixing things; you are the primary technical expert responsible for maximizing production uptime.

What You'll Do:

Precision Rotating Equipment Service: Execute preventive maintenance (PM) and perform complex, precision repairs on screw conveyors, bucket elevators, mixer drums, and material pumps. Expertise includes bearing replacement, shaft alignment, belt/chain tensioning, and seal installation on rotating machinery.

Batch Plant System Repair: Troubleshoot, repair, and replace components integral to the batching process, including material gates, pneumatic actuators, air compressors, and various types of feeders and scales.

Heavy Component Rebuilds: Conduct scheduled maintenance and critical failure rebuilds on major processing equipment, including servicing agitator blades in mixers, replacing wear parts in screw conveyor troughs, and overhauling large water/slurry pumps.

Fabrication and Structural Repair: Independently perform heavy-duty field welding (SMAW and/or GMAW) to repair and reinforce structural components, including hoppers, silos, chutes, and plant framing, ensuring compliance with Vulcan's rigorous safety and quality standards.

Advanced Troubleshooting: Utilize hydraulic and pneumatic schematics to diagnose and repair control systems for flow gates, valves, and material delivery components. A basic understanding of electrical controls (LOTO procedures, motor diagnostics, sensor troubleshooting) is required to work seamlessly with our electrical teams.

Predictive Maintenance (PdM): Implement and document lubrication schedules, track component wear, and utilize systematic inspection techniques to anticipate and prevent equipment failures.

Safety Leadership: Proactively manage LOTO procedures and uphold OSHA and Vulcan safety standards as a non-negotiable priority on every job site.

Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Experience: 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in Ready-Mix Concrete, asphalt, cement, or high-volume material handling environments.

Technical Skill: Proven expertise in industrial mechanical repair, welding/fabrication, heavy hydraulics, and power transmission systems.

Autonomy: Must be a disciplined self-starter, capable of managing a repair schedule across multiple locations with minimal direct supervision.

Certification (Preferred): Relevant certifications in welding (e.g., AWS), industrial maintenance, or millwright work are a strong asset.

Physical Ability: Must be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces (e.g., inside mixers or silos), and outdoors in all weather conditions, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
