The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities invites applications to fill one full-time position at the Teaching Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2026. This is not a tenure-track position. The initial contract is expected to be for a period of three academic years (9 months each), with the possibility of renewals based on the department's future teaching needs, annual performance reviews, and availability of funding. This is primarily a teaching position. Thus, all candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching. The selected hire will spend most of their effort on teaching and teaching-related duties, with some obligations for service to the department, college, and the university. The department is looking for candidates with broad-based training, so that they can teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate and MS levels in areas such as project management, systems engineering, engineering economics, operations research, data science, and human factors. About the Department
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is housed within the College of Science and Engineering, which is a highly interdisciplinary college of engineering, physical sciences, and mathematics. The department offers undergraduate, MS, and PhD degrees. The department currently employs 18 faculty members (this includes 3 teaching faculty), who serve a population of over 200 undergraduate students, 50 MS students, and 30 PhD students. Teaching faculty members are fully engaged in departmental operations as detailed in the duties and responsibilities described above. Within the department, research areas include optimization, stochastics, statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and analytics, with applications to healthcare, operations management, supply chains, transportation, energy, public resource allocation, market design, and manufacturing.
