Position Description

The Commodity Manager will lead the global strategy and execution for Electrical Components within the Data Center vertical. This role encompasses the full procurement lifecycle, including supplier identification, source selection, market intelligence, contract negotiation and implementation, and portfolio optimization. The scope of responsibility includes key electrical commodities such as compressors, heaters, pumps, electric fans, valves, controllers, wire harnesses, sensors, coolant hoses, and refrigerant lines, with potential for additional categories as needed.

This position may be remote or hybrid depending on location and reports directly to the Global Strategic Sourcing Director for Data Centers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement regional and global supply base strategies to achieve the lowest total cost across quality, lead time, delivery, service, and unit cost.
  • Lead Request for Information (RFI) and Request for Quote (RFQ) processes for new product programs and strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Oversee supplier evaluation, analysis, selection, and sourcing for assigned commodities.
  • Drive Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) efforts to support cost reduction and process improvement goals aligned with budget targets.
  • Prepare, negotiate, execute, and manage purchasing framework agreements, including pricing, contractual terms, and other agreements.
  • Identify potential supply chain disruptions and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships through performance metrics (e.g., scorecards), regular business reviews, and collaborative engagement to drive continuous improvement and business growth.
  • Maintain deep market insight for assigned commodities, including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, lead times, technologies, and supplier capabilities.
  • Manage supplier onboarding, including identification and qualification of new suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Procurement Analytics to conduct ongoing price and rate benchmarking to ensure competitiveness.
  • Contribute to new product launch initiatives by developing and executing sourcing strategies that meet timing, cost, quality, delivery, and strategic objectives.
  • Partner with Supplier Quality Engineering, Product Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering to evaluate supplier quality capabilities and ensure compliance with defined standards.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization through written, verbal, and presentation formats.

Travel Expectations: Travel approximately 25% to meet with suppliers, visit Modine facilities, and to support conferences.

Required Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Supply Chain, Materials Management, Operations, Business Management, Engineering or other technical field.
  • Certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) are a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience managing electrical components in a manufacturing company purchasing environment while demonstrating high potential within the company.
  • 5+ years of experience managing commodities.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Experience with negotiating long term purchasing agreements.
  • History of continuous improvement responsibility with measurable results.
