Job Summary


Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor of the Citywide Minna Team, the Clinical Social Worker III (CSW III) works with formerly homeless, justice involved adults who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The CSW III will carry a caseload of residents from the supportive transitional housing site at 509 Minna St (Minna Project) and provide treatment including; individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention and 5150 assessments, substance abuse treatment, assertive outreach, intake, assessment, service planning and consultation. The CSW III will coordinate closely with Westside Community Services (property management and forensic case management on site), support service partners, justice system partners (SF Superior Court, Adult Probation Department, Pretrial Diversion), and other Citywide Minna Team members to develop successful treatment strategies. Additional duties include advocacy and coordination with outside agencies, clinical documentation in Epic, referrals and linkage, and other duties as assigned. The CSWIII carries a special project in addition to the above duties. The candidate will function as an Epic champion, attending twice per month meetings to discuss Epic and PURQC issues, relay information back to team, provide mentorship on documentation/billing issues, and assist in leading trainings on how to effectively use Epic. The overall goal of the Minna Project is to help safely reduce the jail population, increase positive health outcomes, reduce homelessness, and foster the skills/supports necessary for clients to successfully exit the justice system. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $45.20 - $78.06 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) is dedicated to providing services that integrate medical, psychiatric, and addiction treatment. SFGH is the largest provider of acute psychiatric care and the only San Francisco provider of psychiatric emergency care.

The Division of Citywide Case Management Programs provides comprehensive outpatient treatment to San Franciscans suffering from severe mental illness, often complicated by substance abuse and/or chronic medical conditions. The mission of the division is to help clients recover prior functioning, while reducing reliance on acute services, and facilitate transitions from ZFGH psychiatric inpatient, jails, or other institutions to the community.

The Citywide Minna Team provides comprehensive mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, crisis intervention, housing advocacy, and linkages to long term care to clients residing at the Minna Hotel, a therapeutic transitional housing site for justice-involved, formerly homeless, dually-diagnosed adults. The Minna Project is a collaboration between the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) and the San Francisco Adult Probation Department (SFAPD). The Citywide Minna Team provides clinical services and collaborates closely with Westside Community Services, provider of property management and forensic case management services.

Required Qualifications


  • Master's degree from an accredited school of social work, possession of a clinical social worker license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners, and two years of post-master's experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Licensed as an LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric service operations and ability to apply concepts in an acute care setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with populations that is diverse in gender, sexual orientation, race, and ethnicity.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately; detail oriented. Able to efficiently prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required time frames. Knowledge of medical and/or psychiatric terminology.
  • Ability to ensure patient care service standards are consistently met; assists staff with managing challenging patient interactions with sensitivity and skill.
  • The ability to do outreach to client units and in the community at inpatient hospitals and other community locations.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Two years working with severely mentally ill adults, the homeless and dual diagnosed populations.
  • DBT (Dialectal Behavioral Therapy)
  • Demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary team to support clients
  • Experience with Epic Billing System
  • Commitment to UCSF PRIDE Values
  • Prior related experience in the homelessness response system of SF
  • Demonstrated understanding of Harm Reduction, the Recovery Model, and Trauma Informed Care

License/Certification


  • Licensed as an LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
