Position Overview:

The Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician is responsible for fabricating prostheses for people with limb absence. The technician fabricates the device to provide maximum fit, function, cosmetics and workmanship. The technician also repairs the prosthetic devices as needed. They are expected to keep abreast of new fabricating techniques, must be familiar with the properties of pertinent materials, and must be skilled in the use of appropriate equipment.

This work environment will be away from the exam room, typically in a small workshop. Since this role is focusing heavily on the fabrication process, hand skills and familiarity with hand tools is necessary. The ideal candidate will have experience with vacuum systems, heat guns, blades, speed routers, and other small hand tools.



Your Impact

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Depending on the operational requirements, this position may include some or all of the functions listed below:

    Perform fabrication and repair of prosthetic devices, according to Company quality and quantity standards.
  • Employ existing processes to move a project through the fabrication workflow.
  • Fabricate diagnostic and definitive rolled silicone sockets custom to each project.
  • Create, modify, and duplicate plaster models.
  • Exhibit basic knowledge of and skill with 3D printing, 3D scanning, and computer modeling techniques (CAD).
  • Perform assembly of the final prosthesis.
  • Collaborate with team members on project design and troubleshooting.
  • Operate various equipment, machinery, and tools to construct devices.
  • Document work and maintain logs.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations; compliance with Medicare and other governmental regulations; compliance with blood borne and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
  • Work under close supervision.
  • Follow company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a sense of urgency.
  • Basic knowledge of color theory and aesthetically-minded.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy as it relates to prosthetic design.
  • Able to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues and managers.
  • Attention to detail and quality of final output.
  • Competent with using a computer and learning software workflows.

Job Complexity:

Works on assignments that are routine in nature, requiring some judgment depending on presentation. Consults with managers for most projects.

Supervision Received and Exercised:

Reports to Manager, Clinical Education



Minimum Qualifications

Experience and Education:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Technical training school preferred
    • Less than 1 year of related experience

  • Pay range of $18.75 - 28.08/hour + bonus+ benefits. This pay range is posted to comply with State Law. Hanger salary ranges vary based on skill, ability, knowledge, geographic location and other variables.
