Job Description

The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) is seeking a Nuclear Safety Culture Manager. This position will report to the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs and will be responsible for leading the organization's continuous improvement efforts related to Safety Conscience Work Environment.

The Nuclear Safety Culture Manager is responsible for ensuring that the organization maintains a strong, transparent, and proactive safety environment in accordance with regulatory standards and industry best practice. This role oversees the development and execution of programs that support a healthy nuclear safety culture, drive continuous improvement through effective problem identification and resolution, and ensure employees have safe, confidential avenues to raise concerns.

Key Duties Performed by This Position Will Include

  • Oversee MURR's Corrective Action Program (CAP) and work cross-functionally with all departments to ensure program effectiveness and transparency of results. Provide targeted feedback to senior leadership and advise on areas from continuous improvement.
  • Supervise the Corrective Action Program Coordinator.
  • Lead nuclear safety culture training with current and new employees.
  • Provide coaching, training, and feedback to leadership on accountability, transparency, and behaviors that foster a strong safety culture
  • Serve as advisor to all MURR safety focused committees and organizations.
  • Create, maintain, and revise all nuclear safety culture procedures.
  • Develop and implement nuclear safety culture communication processes such as emails, postings, and meeting messages to ensure regular exposure to safety conscience work environment principles.
  • Drive nuclear safety culture continuous improvement actions by utilizing tools such as focus groups to evaluate and monitor trends. Advise leadership on trends and recommend improvement actions.
  • Assess overall safety culture performance by utilizing industry trends and benchmarks

The Nuclear Safety Culture Manager at MURR plays a critical role in fostering a workplace that prioritizes nuclear safety above all else. To be successful, this position must consistently demonstrate and embody the values of a strong nuclear safety culture, including transparency, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to safety. High levels of integrity and respect are essential, as the role requires building trust-based relationships across all departments and levels of the organization. Active participation in departmental team meetings and close collaboration with staff are vital to reinforcing a safety-conscious work environment and promoting continuous improvement through open communication, coaching, and shared responsibility.

Must be available for reliable and consistent onsite work.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM with afterhours work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

* Five or more years of experience working in the Nuclear Industry
* Strong understanding of NRC regulations and INPO principles

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year

Grade: GGS-013
