*This is a remote role based out of our National Office in Arlington, VA or from any major metropolitan market*

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Field Development, the Strategic Director, Endurance Events provides national leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the Association's premier endurance programs: Ride to Defeat ALS and Team Challenge ALS. This role drives program growth, revenue performance, participant experience, and cross-functional alignment across the organization.

The Director leads the national strategy for program expansion, establishes standards and best practices, and collaborates closely with internal teams to ensure consistent, high-quality execution. This position also supports and develops remote field staff, ensuring programs are mission-aligned, financially strong, and positioned for long-term success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy & Vision
  • Lead the strategic vision for Ride to Defeat ALS and Team Challenge ALS, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop fundraising and participant engagement strategies that drive growth, retention, and revenue.
  • Stay informed of trends in endurance fundraising, cycling, and marathon events to guide innovation and continuous improvement.

Program Oversight & Development
  • Establish national program standards, operating procedures, and fundraising best practices to ensure consistent execution across all markets.
  • Evaluate performance metrics and participant trends; identify opportunities for expansion, improved ROI, and enhanced participant experience.
  • Partner with field teams to grow Ride to Defeat ALS locations and expand Team Challenge ALS presence in high-profile marathons nationwide.
  • Oversee timelines, revenue goals, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure efficient program management.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as a primary liaison to Marketing, Communications, Mission, and Finance to ensure national alignment and integrated promotional strategies.
  • Collaborate across departments to optimize operational workflows, participant stewardship, and program visibility.
  • Promote mission integration across all endurance event experiences.

Leadership & Staff Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop remote staff executing Ride and Team Challenge ALS programs across the country.
  • Provide ongoing training for staff, volunteers, and partners to ensure excellence in event execution and customer service.
  • Foster strong collaboration between home office and field teams; support staff in adopting new systems, practices, and tools.

Performance & Accountability
  • Define, track, and analyze key metrics to assess program performance and drive strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare reports and communicate insights, recommendations, and field feedback with leadership.
  • Ensure expense budgets are maintained and ROI is maximized across all events.
  • Convey a professional image that reflects positively on The ALS Association and champions the mission in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five to seven years of progressive experience in peer-to-peer fundraising, endurance events, or large-scale athletic programs.
  • Proven success managing remote teams and high-performing fundraising programs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in event execution, participant stewardship, and revenue growth.
  • Experience with CRM and event fundraising platforms such as Blackbaud, Salesforce, and Marketing Cloud.
  • Comfortable presenting and facilitating both virtual and in-person trainings.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% to support national endurance events.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The ALS Association's pay range for this position is$112,476 - $119,892 annually.

The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets. The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Various factors, including the complexity and significance of the role, job duties/requirements, relevant experience and abilities, and primary work location, determine individual compensation. Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis. Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.

The Association may, at its discretion, offer merit-based increases tied to individual performance. The benefits listed may differ depending on employment status with the Association.
