Heavy Truck Driver Lead

Fort Rucker, Alabama

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drives heavy trucks (straight truck, over 4 tons, usually 10 wheels) to transport materials, merchandise, equipment, or workers between various ranges, warehouses, freight depots and other installation facilities. May load or unload trucks with or without helpers, perform minor mechanical repairs, and ensure trucks are maintained in good working order. Supervises and establishes work priorities for 6-8 grounds maintenance personnel and actively conducts sustainment training for all equipment operators. Develops and drafts daily work control plans for the grounds section and participates in weekly staff meetings, briefing decision-makers on weekly priorities of work. Coordinates and expedites the flow of materials, parts, and assemblies within or between section workers in accordance with work schedules or supervisors' priorities. Reviews production schedules and confers with supervisors to determine material requirements or overdue items, locates materials, requisitions materials, and establishes delivery sequences to departments according to job order priorities and anticipated availability. Arranges for local transfer of materials to meet work schedules, coordinates with supervisors for repair and assembly of materials, and ensures transportation to various departments. Examine materials delivered to production departments to verify specifications. Monitors and controls the movement of materials, computes the amount of material needed for specific job orders, applies knowledge of product and ground movement processes, and compiles reports on the quantity and type of materials on hand. May move or transport materials using industrial trucks or heavy equipment, compile perpetual production records to locate materials in process, and maintain oversight of employee records.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years' experience driving heavy trucks and performing material control duties.
  • Practical experience with logistics management systems and associated procedures is strongly desired.
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. Formal or on-the-job training in truck operations, material handling, and logistics processes.
  • Experience requires (a) a good working knowledge of government supply systems, databases, and computer programs of record; (b) an understanding of logistical needs of the organization serviced; and (c) analytical ability to define or recognize the dimension of logistical problems, collect necessary data, and recommend action based on established guidelines.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Computer experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, and logistics systems.


SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:



  • US citizenship.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with military organizations, military leaders, and civilian leaders.
  • Must be capable of operating hand or power trucks (forklift) and heavy equipment in performing warehousing duties.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, maintain installation driving privileges, and complete a Defensive Driving Course.
  • Must be able to pass all security requirements IAW military installation Provost Marshall's Policy to gain access to the installation.

Working Environment:

The work environment consists of both office and field settings within the Fort Rucker Gunnery Range and Training Complex. The position may require frequent visits to range and maintenance sites, including exposure to noise, weather, and outdoor conditions typical of live-fire training environments. The Project Manager may be required to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays based on mission schedules and contract needs.
